Log
Gnome Ann has asked some associates to help put together an event of some sort for some of what they called "the were-gnomes". The explanation made sense, I just had no idea there was gnomethropy. Gnome Ann wants the event to be a special event where the were-gnomes pretend to be associates on an adventure, and while the description of the story is definitely out there, we were sent to go procure some people to help out. We need a suitable "mid boss", some squids, and a consultant.
We spend a few days traveling via cart, but we reach a point where the cart can't go on and we have to proceed by foot, which wouldn't be so hard but the forest ended up being pretty confusing overall. We couldn't make heads or tails of the map, but by following a stream we were able to find our first quarry, an ogre named Ogre Confidence. We convince him to help, since he supposedly owes Gnome Ann a favor, and we ask him if there's any squids he knows about. Ogre Confidence tells us about his cave further up the path which has something like a squid. When we got close, it turned out to be really stinky, and the 'squid' was a creature known as the Otyugh. Vliegen was able to help with his wind powers, and we slay the squid. It's not suitable for the event, but we decide that maybe the corpse can make a good reference point for monstrosities.
After we asked again, Ogre Confidence also mentions that there were some walking squids that hunt around the stream. He follows us back down the stream and heads to the cart to wait for us. Seskro catches a fish and I had the brilliant idea to spread the scent of the fish by rubbing it on the nearby trees. It doesn't take very long for some squid-like creatures to show up, and their pet boar? It takes some convincing, but I was able to convince them to come with us with the promise of being fed for their troubles. I made sure to tell Gnome Ann about the deal, and they seemed to be prepared to provide. We were then sent to a nearby village school to collect Gnome Ann's friend Ed.
Getting to the school we meet the gnome known as General Ed, and while he seems eager to help out Gnome Ann, he's concerned about leaving the school, as there's no one else to teach. Luckily, Gnome Ann sent us with Kobold Andon, who agreed to help out as well. General Ed and I sit down and I dutifully arrange a curriculum for Kobold Andon to follow while General Ed helps Gnome Ann. We go through a trial run of the curriculum, and Kobold Andon seems utterly incapable of teaching... at least, teaching humanoid children. He teaches lessons about controlling minions, proper posture for intimidating people, and about certain kinds of innate magic.
After a while of correcting certain behaviors, I noticed that there's something wrong with Kobold Andon and the way he was thinking about the curriculum. I deduce that he thinks that he's teaching young dragons, and not young humanoids, and looking back over the curriculum, I realize that there wasn't anything in the curriculum that disputed that fact. With the correction, we were able to clear up the last lingering misunderstandings about teaching, leaving Kobold Andon a model substitute teacher for this village. For our efforts, Gnome Ann has paid us and has begun preparing her event, The Fine Omen.
