Associates grudgingly assist a dwarf by killing a chimera and chasing away a medusa. They aren't done yet.

Log

First off, this isn't over yet. I fully expect we will need to return since Irena Igenous got away and certainly hasn't given up on her plans yet.

But to start at the beginning: We, Aster, Kirrily, Sahona and I, were hired to deal with kobolds who caused miners to disappear. As it (very) soon turned out, the kobolds were not to blame, but rather had been incredibly tolerant of the dwarves that invaded their home.

What rather caused the disappearances and also caused the kobolds fear was something hidden deeper in the mine that turned the miners to stone. Suspecting a basilisks we moved in following the kobolds' directions and were soon attacked by three Xorns, creatures that, according to Sahona, are not capable of turning flesh to stone. They were quickly dealt with and we pressed on.

Deeper in we found the tracks of what we assumed to be a chimera, a suspicion soon confirmed by Sahona who scouted ahead. It was a rather unusual beast, sporting the heads (and abilities) of a large yellow roc, a cave worm, and a witchwarg. Despite its fearsome appearance, it did not pose too much of a danger. Even while flying to the top of the surprisingly high cave, it could not escape Kirrily's flight and the gigantic form that Sahona took.

However, during our fight Irena Igenous, a medusa several of us have met before in a previous mission, showed herself and attempted to turn us to stone. While she did not succeed, we, in return, could not do anything against her escaping underground. We do not know what she was after, but it cannot have been anything good. Another mission will be needed to deal with the threat she poses.

However, beyond this, the expedition revealed another glaring problem: The commissions posted to associates are not properly vetted. It was our luck that Myrmyra Mightreach acted incredibly suspicious and the kobolds were willing to talk rather than their experiences driving them to defensive behaviour, otherwise we may have taken the mission as original posted and dealt with the supposed threat rather than the real one. It is clear now that Myrmyra and his miners are the invaders.

While there are no laws so far outside Onadbyr, we cannot let Associates be used to enact, essentially, banditry. To invade the homes of a peaceful tribe in the name of a money-hungry client. At the very least Myrmyra Mightreach must be blacklisted by the council, but beyond that rules must be put into place to prevent something like this from happening again. In addition I advice caution to all associates, to ensure their employers are trustworthy and the mission is, indeed, as it was stated.

Signed,
Tarina Autio, Associate of the Round Table.
