Viktor von Reuenthal has been many things in his life. At different times he has been a hunter, a healer, a scholar, a tomb raider and a killer; these roles often overlapped. Since youth he had a fascination with the occult, and in his many years wandering the wilds he found many ways to kill it. Monstrous and magical threats abound in the lands of Kelek, and Reuenthal fought them with steel and strange magic. In particular, he developed a strong intuitive and practical understanding of curses: sinister and pervasive magics that torment both people and the lands they live in, sometimes haunting a particular family or community across generations. Over the course of his career Reuenthal slew a number of beasts, but he is far more proud of his acts of miraculous healing and curse breaking. He attributes these successes to meticulous study, relentless training, and the benevolence of the divine.
Reuenthal’s adventuring days are now long past. Now in his early fifties, he has no more strength for the battlefield. Many who deal with the occult and curse magic eventually fall afoul of these arts, and Reuenthal is no exception: he is permanently blinded by dark magic. As such, he devotes his time in Onadbyr to treating the sick and the injured, imparting advice and wisdom to young Associates of the Round Table, and generally seeking to pass on whatever he may have learned in fifty hard years of living.
Reuenthal has two adoptive children, Roland and Annalise. Roland is a young man in his mid twenties, while Annalise is a girl in her early teens. While Roland is older and trained under Reuenthal, it seems that Reuenthal is raising Annalise as his successor; the two are seldom seen apart. Roland is an Associate in the Round Table, and spends as much time as possible outside the city walls. When the three are in town together, they always share a quiet meal in Reuenthal’s makeshift infirmary.
