This page provides an easy reference for Difficulty Classes under the Proficiency without Level variant rule.
Simple DCs
Simple DCs are one of the most common types of DCs, and are used for tasks that may have a difficulty, but no level. Common actions that use a Simple DC are Treat Wounds, Climbing, and Swimming. In Kelek, we have adjusted the Simple DCs in order to be more accessible under Proficiency Without Level.
| Proficiency Rank | DC |
|---|---|
| Untrained | n/a |
| Trained | 14 |
| Expert | 17 |
| Master | 20 |
| Legendary | 23 |
Level-Based DCs
Level-Based DCs are used when players are rolling against something with a specific level. Common examples are Identifying a Spell, Recalling Knowledge, Crafting, Learning a Spell, Earning Income, and casting Rituals.
| Level | DC |
|---|---|
| 0-2 | 14 |
| 3-5 | 15 |
| 6-8 | 16 |
| 9-11 | 17 |
| 12-14 | 18 |
| 15-17 | 19 |
| 18-20 | 20 |
| Spell Level | DC |
|---|---|
| Cantrip/1 | 14 |
| 2 | 15 |
| 3 | 15 |
| 4 | 16 |
| 5 | 17 |
| 6 | 17 |
| 7 | 18 |
| 8 | 19 |
| 9 | 19 |
| 10 | 20 |
Difficulty Adjustments
Some rolls will call for a DC higher or lower than a "Standard" DC, either due to difficulty or rarity. This table will show the adjustments that correspond with the varying difficulties and rarities.
Note: In Kelek, we do not adjust DCs for Crafting or Learning a Spell based on rarity.
| Difficulty | Adjustment | Rarity |
|---|---|---|
| Incredibly easy | -10 | - |
| Very easy | -5 | - |
| Easy | -2 | - |
| Hard | +2 | Uncommon |
| Very hard | +5 | Rare |
| Incredibly hard | +10 | Unique |
