Today's tale: Ritual of Purification, or, Omukade, Boars, and Bears! Oh MY!
On a calm and peaceful morning, Arkes, Fragile, Moz, Alfredo, Hilda, and myself were summoned to head to The Old Country and aid a town that was directly invaded by the daemon attacks. I remember fighting in one of on of those skirmishes, daemons, oni, bandits, and even a large golem or something. But I digress. I gave Sai some instructions and training routines to practice while I was gone and the team headed through the portal. Honestly it was nice to be back home for a change, at least not while daemons were trying to kill me. We headed to the village and to say stuff looked rough would be an understatement. The village was still repairing from the attacks. Even the elderly had to chip in. Fortunately the people seem to be keeping their spirits high, so that's good.
When we arrived to the main building, we met the individual who requested our services, Yamamoto Takahashi. He invited us in and offered us some, no exaggeration, immaculate tea. Nice to get some genuine real deal Tien Xa tea. Lat time I had tea this good was the stuff my brothers and I sto-- borrowed from the aristocratic traders that would try to take shortcuts through the mountains. Good times. Anyway, ol' Takahashi, needed our services to help bring some grace and beauty back to the land. Specifically escorting his shrine maiden daughter to the temple of the head Kami in the region. A large wolf deity that represented the sun, light, and other stuff like that. Typically sun worship is the domain of Shizuru, the Empress of Heaven, but that doesn't seem to be the case here. Maybe for the best. While I myself am of exemplary character and would definitely have the moral fortitude to not let Shizuru's petty grudge against the Great Sage get in the way of helping the unfortunate, followers of Wukong and Shizuru don't tend to get along. Back to the daughter though. She needed to do a special Ritual of Purification to, well, purify the land of daemon influence. This influence was also causing the local nature to become aggressive and dangerous. There was no time to waste. We had to do something.
We arrived at a trail of cherry blossoms. I have to admit, the timing couldn't be better. The cherry blossoms were flowering and it was a very picturesque sight to behold. The ritual began and the shrine maiden began walking forward. From the moment the ritual started we were first attacked by a swarm of centipedes, after the centipedes cam the swarms of rats, then came the Boars. There was a break for bout a minute until the most evil looking boar arrived, followed by a large bear from the west. Lastly, were the two cacoa daemons. They must have been the main source of mischief happening here. Gods that boar was stubborn. If not for Fragile's fortress like stance, that preist might have been gored faster than an intruder in the Ox King's home. The bear was actually not as bad. Alfredo, Moz's green oozekin brother, don't ask me I have no idea, was able to fend of the bear by taking advantage of its poor balance. After a untied front we killed the four beasts and made it to the Shrine.
Upon arriving at the shirne, we were greeted by the great wolf Kami of light. They thanked us for our help and rewarded with some nice little onyx statues. Supposedly they will summon a black wolf to our side. Reminds me of the tales of Xiaotian Quan. The howling celestial dog who serves one of the Great Sage's sworn brothers and mightiest rival. I think I'll call this little statue "Xiao Tian Quan." Yes that will do it. Sai will get a kick out of that. That joke might fall on deaf ears, to others but at least the two of us will get a good laugh out it. And in the end I think that is all that matters. I should also probably pray for that village. If that doesn't do enough, maybe I'll sneak out and leave some peaches for the people there. They have been coming in more delicious than usual lately. Would hate for people to miss out.
