Associates eventually eject an impostor after their meeting.

Log

Managed to arrive mostly on time, granted living just up the road from here made that trivial, didn't even leave the Trimarket. Groggy with another rough night, that's been a thing lately, coffee didn’t really put a dent in it.

We were given the rundown by Inspector Kira after Hiro was done giving the market food a close inspection. For a first assignment it didn’t sound that bad- bloodstain found in the street roughly 36 hours prior, the scene was cleaned since, run through questioning of nearby business owners and mostly likely find out the culprit was long gone, if there was one. No body was found.

We’d split naturally into loose groups and investigated, in a manner of sorts. After finding the Sheriff at the spot where the bloodstain had been and realizing we couldn’t understand each other, I briefly met the butcher nearby while Yasmine headed off to query the others. Didn’t really get a bad impression so I waited a moment with the Sheriff and a white horse that’d hoofed it here alone for some reason. Hiro, Yasmine and Vahn arrived with an unconscionable amount of bread from the bakery, and with Mips and Urallo arriving afterward we put a rough timeframe together while Urallo interviewed the Sheriff. The Sheriff’s favorite color is justice.

With a clearer picture we again went separate ways. Hiro, Yasmine and I asked Beatrice, the potion seller about the night. She’d claimed that she had cleaned the bloodstain only under the impression it was a spill from the nearby butcher, and she’d been unaware of any incident. Seemed truthful so we looked elsewhere. Vahn and Mips had made their way to Trev’s Tools and Caleb's Curiosities in the meantime. The rest of us eventually met back up at Ralph’s and, though we were none the wiser at the time, Ralph himself had been replaced by an impostor. As we entered a crate of bombs spilled off the counter, I quenched them before they could go off, but in retrospect I’m not sure whether it was an accident. We’d questioned “Ralph” who was very convincing, but upon detecting magic and with the Sheriff’s wisdom I’d decided to watch him closely. A few went off to the artists who had reported the bloodstain, Trip and Wire. Other than the fact it didn't go well, I don't know much about that.

It was around this time some altercation had happened at Caleb's Curiosities. I was told the three of them had run out into the streets and “Caleb” burned to death in the sunlight, Vahn and Mips coming to the conclusion that “Caleb” had been a dragon named Morgan. I’m still not quite sure how they arrived at dragon. Inside they had found blood on Morgan’s effects that had been Ralph’s, and our combined group confronted “Ralph”. After pressing “Ralph” we’d got something of a confession. Morgan had drained Ralph of blood, and afterward Ralph’s taken by a third party, filling the gap. The “Ralph” we’d been talking to was an illusion, which was dismissed, and we went into the cellar to expose the impostor.

The cellar was full of fake props much like the main floor, and some false walls. During a brief fight against a bunch of animate furniture, the Corpse Rider emerged. Urallo and I cleaned up the remaining trash while the others confronted it. Under fire from the gunslingers and Vahn’s attacks, it’d paralyzed Yasmine and went for the kill, before Hiro interrupted it by cutting it to ribbons. I annihilated the remains shortly afterward- may it never return. Success with no associates down, the Sheriff’s “tangled weave” unwoven.

I collected Ralph’s remains and the ashes of the vampire, Morgan. Both’ll get their spots at the mortuary, of course. Shame about the craftrat, I’ll try to track down a relative or friend, maybe find a last will.
