At the behest of the Orc Grinda Jaggedtusk the Party heads out of Onadbyr. The expedition's goal is to escort Grinda back home to her village deep in the mountains to check on her wife who she has not heard of in months.
The beginning of the journey is fairly peaceful with no encounters of note going on. The party has some light getting to know each other conversations but nothing of note happens otherwise.
Once the party enters the mountains, they spot a small group of wolves. Instead of engaging with them, they decide to sneak around them avoiding a conflict with them entirely.
Later, the party finally arrives the bottom of the cliff where the village is built atop. While the village itself can't be seen from this spot, Xaku manages to spot a corpse hanging from the cliffside. Grinda explains that it is a man named Tark who was executed on suspicion of killing a priest. The information comes from a letter that Bola, Grinda's wife, sent her from a few months back.
Continuing on, the party follows a path that Grinda leads them up that follows along a set of waterfalls along small cliffs. After Mahra inquires about the river holding salmon Grinda says she does not know, but tells them that some of the fisherman have mentioned seeing some sort of creature in the river. Predictably, as the party is traversing this area they encounter said creature. They manage to kill it but not before it almost manages to drown Xaku in the river. Afterwards, the corpse flows downstream and eventually of the cliff itself.
Afterwards the party arrives at the village only to find no one present. The village is covered in enough snow that it's clear no one living has been in the village in months. Grinda rushes to Bola's tent only to find her wife as a cold lifeless corpse. The party then decides to investigate the rest of the village to find out what happened. They find several things in the process.
They find a corpse in a nearby tent, clutching silver coins in their hands. In the main tent they find the chief of the village along with the head priest and village leader's inner circle. The head priest and Chief have gold coins laid out on their eyes with the Chief also wearing a prized bear pelt. The other members in this tent were found clutching gold coins. Upon searching the other tents, Mahra finds a bottle of embalming fluid. This then leads to her checking to see if the bodies had been embalmed. Instead she realizes that all the corpses are under the effect of the permanent version of the Peaceful Rest spell and the embalming fluid was likely the catalyst for said spell. After more searching of the town, they find every corpse in similar condition although the items varied slightly. The only one who was not under the effects of the Peaceful Rest spell is Tark, the man who had been executed beforehand.
After discussing, the Party believes that their is a possibility that someone in Onadbyr could resurrect these Orcs. After a bit of debate, they convince Grinda to bring Bola back to Onadbyr to seek a solution. Mahra gives Tark a proper send off with a funeral pyre before the party departs and heads back to Onadbyr.
The journey back is uneventful with the only thing that really happens is the party using Air cushion to speed up their descent of the mountain. They return back to Onadbyr, officially ending the expedition, but Mahra and Moz head to search for Healer to take a look at Bola and see what can be done.
