(Thin the Fire Cavalcade that is attacking a local spring)
Log
- As the Cavalcade continues its warpath, Round Table scouts have reported a hotspot of elemental activity at a local village’s spring.
- Our team is tasked with clearing the village’s water supply of any wanton fire elementals to thin the herd of the continued flow of elementals.
- Radari, Samara, Sanguini, Evalynne, Swaying Petals, and King of Dancing head out on a horse drawn cart and arrive in the village after 7 days. Along the way, Evalynne cooks as Radari takes the opportunity to dance. Petals and others help in his performance while Sanguini is not amused by her fellow Hellknight’s shenanigans.
- Arriving at the village, we notice the water flow is lower than it should be. We climb up to the spring to discover a Naiad Queen under siege by swarms of fire elementals.
- Petals, Samara, Sanguni, and KOD climb up the rock to face the elementals while Radari and Valena swim up the creek to help the Naiad Queen in the water.
- We slowly whittle down the swarm of elementals as their bodies fall into the spring.
- Eventually, we defeat all of the fire elementals and take a moment to rest as the Naiad Queen explains that they have been under continual attack by these elementals who are not individually challenging, but persistently annoying and draining nonetheless.
- Before we can fully recover, however, we see the familiar glow of more fire elementals approach us. Notably, there is a disturbing creature known as a Rakkatak, with wriggling insectoid legs and a large toothy mouth, who leads the charge.
- We square up as Radari leads the charge, facing the Rakkatak on the cliff face. The Rakkatak grabs and sucks Radari’s innards. Sanguine summons an Ort who eventually punches and kills one fire elemental before disappearing. As the rest of the team catches up, Radari is hit with a crit as is knocked out before Samara is able to help him.
- Eventually, we are able to kill the creature before it completely eats Radari and the Naiad Queen heals us all to full. They believe that the creatures have been coming out of a cave to the south, an hour’s walk and well out of range from her spring. She gives us some temporary protection against the heat and sends us on our way.
- After an hour, we find the cave and we descend down the natural caverns until we discover a carved passage with copper pipes that is lit by a fire even deeper below. We continue and find an enormous passage with a 60 foot tall cliff that winds downwards into a large fire pit that is an open portal to the plane of fire. At the base there is a magic circle that seems to be powered by a fire elemental that appears similar to a dwarf at first glance, but is identified as a Munsahir Trooper. He wields a firearm and is able to summon more creatures from the plane of fire. Guarding the ramp down are two hellhounds.
- The Munsahir Trooper summons fire wisps who very slowly drift up from the bottom of the cave. KOD and Radari engage with the Hellhounds. Sanguine summons another Ort to attack the Hellhounds, but it is quickly defeated and the Hellhounds deal significant damage to KOD and Radari with a fire breath attack.
- KOD flanks as Radari is able to shove one of the Hellhounds off of the cliff, causing it to plummet 60 ft, injured but still alive. Evalynne kicks rocks on it to maintain her panache.
- As more fire wisps are summoned from the portal, we start slowly making our way around the cliff to confront the Munsahir Trooper down below. The Trooper shoots at Sanguine with his firearm and Samara tries to recall any knowledge she can about this fiery ringleader. The Naiad Queen’s watery protection wears off and we all take some fire damage from the extreme heat of this environment.
- Sanguine kites the fire wisps harassing her as KOD and Radari clean up the second group of fire wisps before finally reaching the Munsahir Trooper. The Munsahir Trooper steps out from the magic circle and strikes KOD with his flaming hammer. The rest of the team catches up as the Trooper hits Radari with a devastating critical hit. Radari is brought back up by Samara, who continues to roll the minimum amount of healing. KOD also barely avoids being knocked out by the Trooper as they and Radari take turns tripping him.
- Finally, Valena lands a devastating crit on the Trooper and finally downs him. But the runes on his armor start to glow as it explodes in a fireball as a posthumous defense measure. Radari is out of range, but moves to defend against the remaining wisps and gets caught on fire. The rest of the team takes care of the wisps, but Radari is left with 1 hp left and still has persistent fire damage. Out of options, Petals tells him to pull her Leshy fruit from her cheek, and Radari is able to eat the sunflower seed and survive the persistent burn.
- With the Munshair Trooper defeated, the magic circle fades as the fire in the portal is extinguished. Examining the area, the large cave seems natural but the large hole and the copper pipes branching off from it seem to be an unnatural excavation of some kind.
The team is able to return to exit the cave and return to Onabyr, confident knowing that they did all they could this time to thin the encroaching fire elemental army.
