The party sets out to take out some of the lesser fire elementals of the cavalcade.
Log
As the one with the most experience dealing with these rogue elementals, I have taken on the duty of recording the events of our mission to “thin the herd”. Our party consisted of Lictor Atticus and Armiger Omen, as well as the Associates known as Jovial and Seskro. While I had experience with most of the others, I had never encountered Jovial. I am told she is known in the city for her law practice, and she proved a reliable ally.
After five days of travel, there was no sign of fire, nor even smoke. We’d begun to think the problem had perhaps solved itself, but of course, that was not the case. There were trails of char where the cavalcade had surely been, but the earth was waterlogged, by what we would come to find were more rogue elementals, though these ones of the Plane of Water.
Eventually we came upon a Faydhaan taking on the face of a human and attempting to control a batch of water elementals that were destroying the surrounding hill. He claimed that he summoned them from a portal to the Plane of Water, but would not tell us where. After some discussion, we agreed to assist in sending them back to their home plane.
The Living Waterfalls and Water Wisps were simple enough to dispatch, but it seemed that the battle summoned a being of mud, which proved more troublesome. While myself, Armiger Omen, and Seskro remained on the hill with the Faydhaan, Lictor Atticus and Jovial took the battle to the elementals. I sent Valena to join. It is a shame that the Lictor relies so heavily on his weaponry, as each strike with his blade stuck deep into the creature of mud.
During the battle, it appears that the peak of a mountain some miles off detonated, signaling to our party the location of the cavalcade. Once we dispatched the mud creature, I confronted the Faydhaan on his polymorph, and he revealed to us his true form. Quite fascinating. As thanks for removing the water elementals from the Material Plane, he gifted us some spells scrolls, which would grant “heat vision”, allowing us to see through smoke without issue.
It was not difficult to locate the mountain where the cavalcade currently resided, given that half of it was missing. We were able to rest and recover some along the way, at least enough that we were confident confronting the outer forces of the cavalcade. Unfortunately, the mountain we encountered them in was rife with ash and dust, and even with the aid of magic our vision was still quite obscured.
We were able to rid this plane of two ratlike elementals, a scorpion of magma, and a humanoid composed almost entirely of flame. The lerritan was only a few hundred feet away, but didn’t seem to take interest in us, letting the weaker members of the cavalcade fall to us before it moved on.
It seems as though the cavalcade has changed course, and is now moving towards Onadbyr. I wonder whether that is willful, or if the city just happens to be on its unfortunate path.
Additionally, one of the three lerritans seems to be missing. We saw no sign of it.
This concludes my report.
