Sometime within the year 224, a silver-furred kitsune left the Old Country because of the famine and had heard rumors of a city that was starting to flourish, a bastion of civilization. Tired of traveling around barely surviving as a performer, and thinking this would be a secure place to live, she makes his way over there. About a week or so away from the city, she ran into an incident where a village was about to get caught up in a stampede of wild boars. They took action and evacuated the townsfolk before anything bad could happen, and he was hailed as a hero for doing so. She then figured that he'd like city life more than staying in a village, they continued on her journey. When he got to the city, she signed up as an associate, and eventually made it to expert tier. She heard rumors about someone with an oddly similar name who looks a lot like them doing associate work. They thought that was weird, but didn't think too much about it, especially after hearing about this mysterious associate getting executed, something about summoning a devil in front of an archon? In autumn of 225, they got a job involving questioning a gnomish merchant by the name of Gnome Ann, apparently a bunch of weird stuff happens around her, and some associates wanted information about that. One event that Gnome Ann recalled sounded weirdly similar to the boar incident that he was involved with, in that she went to a petting zoo and the pigs got loose. Around Winter 225, the urn containing Kagari's ashes got knocked over and a little bit blew out an open window and mixed with the fresh snowfall, which they stepped on causing him to disappear. Almost two years later, they awoke in an alleyway, having no idea what happened. She goes about their life as normal, but people keep looking at her like he's a ghost. It's then that they find out about Kagari's death, and the whole Gnome Ann ordeal. A little out of practice and weaker from the point he was at before disappearing, she starts over from scratch, doing some easier jobs as a way to get back to where they were before. This leads us to 229, where after an unfortunate misunderstanding on a job, she faked his death and changed their name from Karage to Kaina.
