Log

We had assembled in the Abandoned District at the planned venue, and made our introductions. I'm typically signed up for these by the council, so the moment I had realized two of my party were Arumi and Uravus, whom I had recognized from some very unfortunate expedition logs, I was convinced I had been assigned to a combat expedition above my experience and was likely soon to die ignominiously or become seriously injured. I was relieved to be told it was just party planning. I can do party planning. Was introduced to another new face, Esther, and we entered to meet Melfyra.

After taking two candies each from the "take one" candy pail, (signage should be improved going into the actual event, please, it is supposed to be take one of each,) and meeting our boss we got to work. We'd honestly spent around a third to half the time just chatting about current events and prior adventures, seal-clubbing that only makes sense in context, death by housing, breaking a hall of mirrors and the other unfortunate events of the casino chip debacle, the incident with Old Man Morgan running into the street and burning up, et cetera. Arumi tried to extinguish my hair, to be fair, now I can say a better mage than I has tried. A very nice change of pace from the usual funerary duties and trying to render the main mortuary building usable. I'm sure nobody minds. Anyhow, the general ideas after the planning:

  1. Costume contest: A panel of 3 judges, rating each on multiple criteria. The reward will be cosmetic, such as a crown. Uravus suggested it be attended by 3 ghosts, one each representing the past, present and future. The judges are not the ghosts. Aim for no repeats of incidents last time this was run.
  2. Spooky Maze: Extraplanar puzzle room with a score incentive inside it so there's more to it than simply exiting quickly. Specifically mentioned was collecting exactly 10 pages. Uravus suggested it be attended by 3 ghosts, one each representing the past, present and future.
  3. Throwing Darts Range: Boardwalk or carnival game, just some fun prizes and more casual fun comparative to the other attractions. No ghosts representing any timelines.
  4. Trivia Game: Hosted by Samara, likely something like a pub quiz. No ghosts representing any timelines. Maybe keep the questions irrelevant to the current apocalypse.
  5. Relay Race: An item passed between assigned teammates to a finish line. Uravus suggested a golden pumpkin, and 3 ghosts, one each representing the past, present and future.
  6. Pumpkin Carving Contest: Uravus suggesting another golden pumpkin and a mirror that shows you the future for some reason. I'm very sure how I would carve a gold pumpkin but I still don't get the mirror. No ghosts. Maybe one ghost.
  7. Trick or Treating: Designate an area of the Abandoned District for classic trick-or-treating.
  8. Scavenger hunt: Similar to the Trick or Treating event, a designated area for a scavenger hunt.

By no means final or complete, of course. We'd talked about our own hall of mirrors with another golden pumpkin (made somewhat complicated by the special properties of mirrors and some associates), blood sport gladiatorial combat, hosting an open bar with cocktails and mocktails, wine-on-demand from people's bare hands (who drinks one minute old wine?), sending people back and forward in time without consent, granting wishes to people who solve incomplete logic puzzles that were either unsolvable or immediately solvable. Esther fainted at one point as things got extremely convoluted and I don't blame her. My notes on this are a mess, however we could call it successful?
