Creating A Particular Palate
Spider webs whisper,
Blades and bombs light shadowed paths—
Hunters taste their prize.
To my revered master, Lady Emiko,
I humbly report to you the details of our most recent endeavor, undertaken at the behest of Boophis, an eccentric who tasked our group with hunting the largest spider within the Spider Caves. He believes these creatures might offer culinary potential, though I remain skeptical of such notions. He provided us with antidotes for venomous bites, and we embarked on the journey without incident, arriving at the caves after a day's travel.
The cave trails were familiar to some in our company, though the eerie silence of the place warned us of the danger ahead. Following the winding paths, we reached the epicenter of the nest, where the real challenge began.
Upon entering the epicenter, I swiftly dispatched a spider concealed in the webs, but two swarms soon descended upon us. Castell’s marksmanship proved invaluable as he fired into a line of advancing spiders, while I dealt with the remaining swarm.
Moments later, two enormous venomous spiders emerged, targeting Gorm and Sanaa. Sanaa was bitten but maintained her composure, eradicating a nearby swarm with a well-thrown bomb. Gorm’s bravery allowed me to exploit a distracted spider and strike it down.
The battle intensified as three additional giant spiders approached from the west, seeking to corner Sanaa. Dendra intervened, wielding her scythe with ferocity and cutting down two of them, while Castell eliminated the third with a precise shot.
From both our rear and front, more spiders and swarms converged. Dendra bore the brunt of their assault, her health dwindling as she fended them off. Sanaa’s fiery cocktails kept the spiders at bay, while Jeremov healed Dendra’s wounds. However, the relentless spiders ambushed Jeremov, forcing Gorm to step in and eliminate several of them. Then the super-giant spider descended, a monstrous figure that seemed to command the nest itself. Sanaa bombarded it with explosives while Castell thinned the smaller swarms threatening Gorm. Dendra’s resolve shone as she cut down three more spiders before joining the assault on the massive beast.
Despite Jeremov retreating from the fray, I pressed forward, dueling smaller spiders while aiding Dendra and Sanaa in cornering the super-giant. Dendra struck the killing blow, severing one of its legs before smashing its skull with a ferocity that reminded me of ancient tales of vengeful warriors.
With the spider defeated, we hauled its massive carcass from the nest. I collected a sample of an unusual mold growing on old spider remains, suspecting it may hold some untapped potential.
Boophis, however, was unimpressed with the creature’s spindly legs, lamenting that it bore no resemblance to the Goliath Spiders of his homeland. Gorm, in his ever-curious manner, took a bite of the raw spider meat, though his reaction did little to inspire confidence in its taste.
Though this mission brought peril and strangeness in equal measure, I am ever mindful of your teachings. I strive to honor your name with my actions and hope this account brings you satisfaction.
