The Council has asked for some associates to help with a new shopkeeper in town, and since I'm not traveling, I thought I'd spend some time helping out. Apparently this knickknack owner bought this property and didn't check out the basement and got scared by some noises.
So we head downstairs and we're immediately accosted by some possessed dolls of some kind. I'm able to identify that the horse has some kind of armor thanks to it being an object of some sort, so all we had to do was hit it even harder. The dolls don't prove too much trouble for Odin and his pick or for my arrows. The room opens up into what looks like a children's room, but it also kind of looks like the dolls put some of this stuff together? All of the books were blank facsimiles of what a book looks like (so I took one, for recording the creatures I come across), and the chests seemed to have the creations that look like but aren't other things, like fake gold pieces.
Continuing on, the basement starts looking more like a hunter's storage, as it's full of taxidermied animals. Odin and Echo get close to a taxidermied dog and it bites out at them, but these also prove to not be much of a problem. Seems like a lot of things coming to life down here.
Further in we see that there's some moisture issues as the next rooms are filled with fungus. We don't see much, but when Seskro goes in to start eating mushrooms, she discovers that there's a Mushroom Leshy, who obviously takes offense to trying to be eaten. I recognize something about it a bit too late as it suddenly puffs the area with poison and severely hits Seskro. We scramble to try to save her while also putting down this rightfully-pissed mushroom, who makes all the fungal growth in the area surge when it dies. We barely manage to stabilize Seskro and decide to press on since we don't want to sit around forever to make sure a ranged combatant is fully healed.
The last room we see is empty aside from an odd doll that's been beheaded, but by having the stitching pulled out instead of being cut off. We turn around and in the room with the mushrooms we hear some rustling around behind a wall of mushrooms. Seskro and I, thanks to being smaller, can eye a path to another room, but it's too small for us to squeeze through. With my nimble hands, and the help of Odin and Echo's muscles, we take a while to make a safe path that we all can fit through.
Entering this last room reveals more storage, and a bunch of dead fireflies and a dead kobold, and coming closer to the scene of the struggle we find some more Kobolds. Seskro and I chat with them, in Draconic to ease their anxieties, and convince them to leave and that they'll find no treasures or "shinies" in here. We do warn them that if they make more problems, associates will be sent to clear their warren out.
We go back to the owner and inform her that the threats have been cleared out, but that the basement 'does' still need to be cleaned out, since there's a lot of mushroom growth, a malfunctioning icebox, and a huge hole in the wall leading to a Kobold Warren, but that it should be safe to go down there, as long as she doesn't eat the mushrooms.
