Log

An ogre sighting at a nearby hamlet has prompted the city's Round Table Council to send out a group of Associates to investigate. Our group met in the city and were able to make good time, arriving at the hamlet after just 3 days of travel. The hamlet seemed calm when we first saw it, though notably an ogre was stationed just outside the walls.

We chose to attempt communication with the ogre, in spite of the fact that none of our group seemed to be fluent in Jotun. Fortunately, the ogre seemed able to speak Common. Inside the town, several of the residents were visible, though they did seem frightened. We learned that the town was being held captive by the ogre, who collected tribute from both the hamlet and any passing travelers. The ogre eventually made a request of our group- to clear out a tribe of goblins who had taken over his cave so he could return home.

The ogre directed us to his cave where we were met by a hobgoblin at the entrance. The hobgoblin was willing to speak with us, though he seemed unwilling to cooperate with our group. After learning that the goblins were using the cave as a base of operations for an area-wide takeover, we decided that just clearing out the goblins was the best option.

The hobgoblin sounds a warning and a horde of goblins emerge from the cave. After a hard-fought battle, we managed to clear out most of the goblins. Near the end of the fight, the ogre attempted to sneak up and attack us, claiming that he was collecting his 'pound of flesh' from us. We were able to distract him just long enough to finish both the ogre and the goblins without losing anyone.

It's unfortunate that both the goblins and ogre were unable to prove trustworthy enough that we could spare either, but we did what we needed to in order to make the area safer for its residents.

Jemerov suffered lingering effects on the way home from the Goblin Pox spread by the goblin dog. With rest and care, he was able to overcome the ailment without any lingering effects.

Overall, it this was an enlightening mission. Though things did not work out as we had hoped, I am glad that we made the effort to speak with both the ogre and goblins before things turned violent, as I have seen happen in many other logs. I implore other associates to attempt diplomacy when possible. I'm confident that it will pay off.
