Log
Our party gathered to meet a man known as Jeremiah, where he explained to us that we would be heading out to a large, oddly barren hill a day southeast from the city. Hills such as these were found in places otherwise bereft of hills and were believed to be sunken villages, he explained. We encountered no issues along the road, arriving at what would soon be the dig site. In investigation we found a waterway and what looked to be a collapsed archway, the latter of which we, minus a water-enthused Mayel, deemed the safer option. From there we took shifts digging and keeping watch through the night, working into the morning and breaching into the ruins before midday.
After traversing a dark tunnel for some minutes, we found an opening that led into the ruins proper. Inside we spotted large fireflies which, to our experience, caused us no trouble and should not be bothered without reason. What did cause us trouble, however, were the large, slug-like humanoids we encountered throughout our exploration of the tunnels. I've yet to determine precisely what they are, but their wail is sickening to the stomach and their explosive deaths more so. As we later discovered, rendering them unconscious and detonating them from a distance is a feasible alternative to facing their acidic payload head-on. Said payload in the initial discovery wounded us severely and forced Cedric to temporarily retreat, but after some time to rest we continued on.
There were many small rooms to explore, many of which were empty or carrying ancient personal affairs, nothing of notable importance until we found a storage room with an approximate 50 pounds of bricks in usable condition. Searching deeper in we came to a door with crates beside it, of which we found some usable equipment, and two more slug creatures beyond the doorway. Though the combat was messy, we held the doorway after I personally discovered, and narrowly avoided, some sort of acidic vomit these creatures were capable of projecting at a distance. Searching beyond that doorway we found supplies, a hidden room, and noises beyond that hidden room that signaled multiple more of the slug creatures. Look for Mayel's chalk writing, and know the path beyond it is dangerous, for we elected not to press forward when we were sparse on resources.
Retreating back and checking rooms north of the way we came in, our last encounter with the slugs came in a wide-open area where we lured them back and finally put the non-lethal approach into action at Ishi's suggestion, to surprising success. Searching the nearby rooms we found the armor of what looked to be a more well-off individual, and Mayel's scouting ahead found some sort of large frogs bearing fang-riddled mouths. They spotted us but did not attack, though I do warn that we did not venture inward to find out their intentions.
I personally recommend a second investigation be issued for this location, there is much more to be found. To those that come however, know we found no particular weaknesses or resistances for these slug creatures, and we had not touched the web-covered areas you will see as you progress forward from the entrance.
