Cat Village

Cat Village is a cat-centric village of approximately 200 people and a potentially equal amount of cats. Situated near a river, they mainly subsist via farming and fishing, though their yearly Cat Festival brings in various visitors willing to buy their cat-related trinkets. According to mayor Shadbruzah (Female Orc), this village has been destroyed and rebuilt through many cataclysms over the ages by the survivors of whatever destroyed it last time. It's usually the river.

Districts

River Market

The central hub of Cat Village, this is also the only fully walled-off part of the village. Here is where a majority of the free-cats roam, and where both the festival and major trade activities happen.

Notable Locations
  • The Yard, the open grassy area at the city's core. Most of the year this landscape is empty save for the Charles Fountain, named so for Jingly Charles, a cat that saved a child from drowning in the river many years ago. Leading up to and during the yearly Cat Festival, this space instead is filled with various displays of craftsmanship and dedication toward the feline concept. There are also residences on the far western and eastern sides, but they are generally more expensive to own than elsewhere.
  • Sweet Watercolor, an illustrator's shop that sells various paintings, surprisingly not all cat-themed. Once built and ran by the Norreneldth family, Mirenras (Male Elf) and Caeredloth (female Elf) have since retired and passed the shop on to their children. They still occasionally make paintings for the shop to sell, but they are undoubtedly more expensive, and more high quality, than anything else the shop regularly produces. The retired owners also live upstairs.
  • Yarn's Length, a yarn shop ran by the elderly Ormin Toughclub (nonbinary dwarf), sells yarn and yarn creations. You'd be surprised what someone talented can make from just colored yarn.
  • Kobolds Bath Co., a bathhouse ran by Thorald Bafflecord (Male Gnome), is the premiere bathhouse of Cat Village. The story goes that the original building was constructed by Kobold settlers, but nobody can actually confirm this.
  • The Stove's Captain, once one of multiple inns in The Yard, has now elevated itself past its competition by touting itself as the preferred drinking and planning location of Cat Village's saviors from Onadbyr, having been used as the stake-out location of one of their members in the hunt for the killer cat, Mr. Lucky.
  • Cat Village School, the sole location for children's education in the village. Toting a total of 3 teachers, they do their best to prepare children for their future via teaching a variety of skills.
  • The Guard Office, located on the eastern side of The Yard, is the place you go if you need help from the city guard. Guard captain Sundily Finefront (Female Gnome) is rarely there, more often in the barracks across town, but the runners in town are excellent at their job.
  • The Shadbruzah Residence, home to mayor Shadbruzah, is found on the eastern end of the Rivermarket, not far off the main road. It stands out as a 2 floor manor house with a personal garden and personal guards, to boot. Notably, every personal guard of the mayor is a catfolk. The mayor insists there is no implications to be made here.

The Wet District

Responsible for the majority of fishing in the village, this residential area located outside the walls is built on a split in the river and is the most prone to flooding by far. The homes in this area as a result are built with elevation in mind, as the ground here is often covered in water. It is also the smallest, and cheapest, residential area in the village with the smallest free-cat presence by far, but just as many house-cats.

Notable Locations
  • The Graceful Catchers, the sole fishery in town positioned on the western end of the upper Wet District. Ran by Irthalel Heasialtin (female elf), this is the place to get poles, bait, river boats, and buy or sell fish. How the owner has time to fish with all these management tasks solely on her hands, nobody knows.
  • Rose Vegetables Co., a produce shop that sits closest to the bend and closest to the gate into River Market, has no known owner. It's less of a shop and more of a big, multi-person stall where multiple family merchants take their produce to sell. Nobody is sure how it became the location to buy your produce on the west side of town, but its only competitor is on the north-eastern side of town.

The Residents

The residential district of the village, this is where a majority of the population can be found, for better or worse.

Notable Locations
  • Upper Residents, the eastern side of the village, encompasses the proper homes and businesses outside the walls. They're far from wealthy, but at least the homes here aren't made of cloth.
  • Lower Residents, the south-east portion outside the walls, is a collection of tents housing people who either can't afford, or don't want permanent homes. Though tent makers can be found here, there's no formal business to be found. Just people willing to work, or biding their time. The highest portion of free-cats can be found here, and it is somehow always the least harmed area in the event of a disaster.
  • The Empty Pedestal, once home to the golden statue of Mr. Lucky, since town down upon the discovery that the Village's lucky cat, said to ward off danger, was a murderous aberration known as an Angoyang. It still remains a popular hangout spot for the youth of the city, however.
  • The Silver Builder, the sole construction guild of the village, several builders work together to maintain the condition of everything made of wood or stone. Those with the skills to work here are well provided for, considered important people given the tumultuous condition of the world.
