Log
The party went to Valera and met a ysoki scout who led us to the area in which the creatures have been noticed. The blood and fluids have been sucked out before the meat is eaten, and only a small amount of meat is eaten. We entered a shaded area of the valley that kept its chill still.
We first encountered a group of creatures that appear to be land sharks that had taken a kill on a frozen lake. There were four of them visible. The sharks increased in size as they fed on the corpse, increasing from small sized creatures to medium, and gaining arms and legs. They were intent on their kill, and didn’t notice us immediately. Vliegen and Omen had some inkling of their capabilities that they were amphibious, and could burrow through ice. The medium and small sized ones were pack hunters. Theoretically they could get even bigger, but they appear to continue to hunt with their smaller brethren.
We approached them with caution, and drew them to attack us. Several hid beneath the ice in ambush farther along, but we spotted them before they could attack. They moved through the ice by drilling through it, leaving holes where they burrow. Valerian water is enchanted so that you can stand on it, but can also be pulled into it. They do have pack tactics, and can sense blood, and can grab things with their mouths. After being bitten and grabbed by them they begin to suck out your fluids. They do not have reactive strikes.
We were then attacked by a much larger one that had swapped out its drill nose for a piercing nose. It also doesn’t have a reactive strike. It is a boss monster, so it gets two initiatives. After leaving the water it forms an armor of ice to increase its defenses. None of these creatures can speak a language. When you critically hit it when it has ice you break its extra defenses. It can also inflate itself as a defensive action, which causes a will save against fear within 30 feet. Failing the save results in frightened 1. This effect causes it to grow 1 size larger. If you are within the new space, you are pushed away with a reflex save. Failure results in falling prone. When heavily threatened it will retreat under the ice and then burst the ice underneath a different target.
The small ones are Zhamites, and the big one was a Zhamtrios.
