Associates help start an uprising against the mayor of Fellwood.

Log

Today we tell a tale most exciting. In our previous exploits, we’d been tasked with infiltrating the manor of Fellwood’s mayor, and what fun that was! We successfully retrieved vital information, too, of course, but that’s only as important as one makes it, really.

Despite our plan going smoothly, the mayor must’ve sensed something amiss the next morning, for as we awoke, bells rung out across the town, signaling its complete lockdown. No one was allowed beyond the walls, and guards were positively everywhere, patrolling the streets like flies on carrion.

We were presented with the opportunity to help take down the mayor, forming an uprising alongside the townsfolk. We agreed, of course—who could possibly pass up on such a thing? However, Kelsey told us it would take some time to spread the information of the mayor’s wrongdoing among the town, so we had about three days’ time to prepare for an assault on his manor.

For the first day, Storan and Arkes scouted around the manor and its guards, finding that there were many troops patrolling nearly every inch of the town. Their combat capabilities seemed sufficient enough to at least hold their own against us, as well, though certainly far from an elite force. Kubo and Hilda decided to go and help the less fortunate members of the community, healing them and offering what respite they could. However, Hilda caught the attention of some guards in doing so. I, for my part, had been doing some patrolling of my own, and stepped in to help Hilda with her predicament. The ensuing verbal altercation was no issue for me, of course. The guard ended up tucking tail and leaving—I do almost wish he’d put up more of a fight, though. Afterwards, Hilda went to create obstructions in the paths of guard patrols, to hopefully slow them down should they be involved in the eventual fighting. I continued my own patrol of the slums, finding that there were, surprisingly, less beggars on the street. Many were huddled in alleyways, speaking to each other in hushed towns. I’d no doubt the word of the mayor’s actions was beginning to spread.

At the end of the day, we returned to the inn and were told that the message was being received by other townsfolk, with great effect. Unrest was growing, but it was being kept under wraps for the most part.

As we headed out for the second day, things were noticeably different outside. It was almost as if everyone had vanished, leaving Fellwood a ghost town. Most everyone was staying inside, it seemed, possibly having taken the memo of keeping things low-key a bit sideways. In order to make things look not quite as suspicious, Storan managed to convince some of the townsfolk to put up a facade and go about their days as normal, while I spread rumors about there being a sickness causing everyone to be cooped up inside their homes. Eventually, the town gained a bit of life within it, though still quite far from its usual clamor.

In the meantime, Kubo scouted the sewers that led to the manor, in the event we could sneak in and simply assassinate the mayor. However, guards bearing large whistles were stationed down there, likely to prevent that very plan from coming to fruition.

Hilda and Arkes spent most of their day at the inn, fortifying it and setting up an impromptu field hospital, with Arkes training people in basic first aid. With that, the second day soon came to a close, as the rest of us returned to the inn for the night.

Our third day was fairly simple in principle— we were to rally our troops in preparation for tomorrow’s battle. People had begun covertly congregating in various areas across town, and as such, we each gathered our own groups of people to lead, and trained them in the basics of combat suited to our respective styles.

Training took up most of the day, but throughout it, we also noticed that the guards seemed… distracted. As if they were preparing for something, although we couldn’t tell what. It definitely seemed that they were not preparing for an attack, however. This theory was confirmed later on in the day when we were told there was an important guest to be arriving the next morning—though this time, it was certainly not me, recalling my previous ruse. This would at least mean they weren’t ready for us, however. With the day’s training complete, everything was in place. The time of reckoning would be upon us before we knew it.

Soon came the dawn of the final day. Early in the morning, a wall of guards lined the entrance to the city, in preparation for the incoming precession. Early-rising townsfolk gathered behind them, forming crowds as if watching a parade. Joining them, as more and more people filled the streets, we rounded up our troops in waiting.

It was not long before a single carriage made its way through the village’s gate. It bore tabards that I knew to be of the house Warnock, which Kubo recognized as one of the top names the mayor had been selling slaves to, from his read-through of the stolen documents. This checked out, of course, for the Warnocks are a family to the north of Onadbyr who focus on mining, enslaving people to work their mines and quarries.

Others in the crowd soon seemed to recognize the same, growing restless and agitated. It was time. As the carriage trundled down the path, music began to fill the air, as songs of rebellion rang clear. Pushing their way through the guards’ blockade, townsfolk began to overwhelm the carriage, though it managed to make it into the manor’s courtyard. Our troops at the ready, we charged in, meeting the manor’s guards head-on. Engaging them in combat did not take long at all, for we dealt with them handily and sufficiently thinned their ranks.

As the townspeople dispersed to secure the perimeter, us Associates headed inside to deal with the mayor and his noble friend. We were met by more enemy troops, with the rest of our group taking them and the Warnock noble on in a fight, as I challenged the mayor to a duel.

And what a duel it was! It isn’t often I get to engage in such a waltz as that. I skewered him in the end, of course, but it was truly a delight to kill him. Because he was evil, obviously. But I digress! He and his lackeys had been swiftly dealt with, alongside the Warnock noble. What few remained of the enemy soon surrendered, and with everything settled, our mission was finally considered complete.

After collecting our payment, as well as the items we’d procured on our espionage mission and from the now-dead nobles’ persons, we began the trek back to Onadbyr.
