Log
This was an absolute failure of a mission that I take full responsibility for. We loaded up in a carriage and set out for Desperate Hope with LOC in tow, intending to escort them there against whatever danger came our way. Around 3 1/2 hours into our travel I spot a three-armed giant, with Maki spotting multiple snake-like creatures of bone. I yell for Aleth to fall back, as they were in the lead scouting it out. As the necrophidii emerge from the woods to attack, I rush forward to draw their attention. The giant moves over us and immediately grabs LOC. We do our best to bring the giant down, but it immediately starts running. With the necrophidii wearing down some of the other associates with ranged capabilities, I move to draw the attention of the snake-like creatures and let them try to stop the giant, who is faster than many of us.
We failed, the giant escaped, and the hunt began. LOC left us a trail of burnt trees for the first two hours, but after that we lost the course for another day until we found a cave it had rested at. Another trail of burnt trees for a short time. This song and dance continues for a week before we find a note from LOC.
"The dearest Associates of Odanbyr. This is LOC. The travel goes well, I am well. The forrrrest burns brightly this time of yr. You will be unable to follow
or find me. Do not continue to
track me. And remember, the sun rises in the west, the snow comes at dawn, and most importantly: This one IS a ShARk."
Unable to parse the code behind this note ourselves, we had no choice but to return in hopes that we could find the resources to get us back on the hunt sooner than later.
Perhaps if I had made better decisions, such as focusing on the giant and trusting my allies to survive the necrophidii, I could have saved LOC. But I did not, and that is my failure alone to bear.
