Log

Log penned by Swaying Petals

We got a call back from the Ratfolk archeologists at the Lost Temple. Last time we fought off some constructs, but as they have dug deeper they have felt that they are being watched. So Peaches, Kaina, Father Sunstone, and I (I’m Swaying Petals by the way, hi!) traveled to the Lost Valley deep in the wilderness. It was strange to have another cleric of Sarenrae with us, as we both filled similar roles, but I didn’t really mind! It’s nice to have some like-minded peers and I don’t mind sharing the spotlight. We went through the passages we had traveled and built upon the last time we were here and descended down a circular stairwell until we found a circular room with walls lined with pipes and tubes and a reservoir of this green liquid that Kaina said was poison that would melt your flesh! Yikes! So taking a step back from that, we went to the door to the south and Peaches quickly sniffs out the smell of motor oil and soon enough, a bunch of robots surround us! They were different from last time, some looking like dinosaurs or dogs. Peaches didn’t hesitate to unleash the smack down on each robot with her staff! And soon we finish them off.

We find a jail area that had cages of various sizes and several torture devices. In one large cell, we see scrape marks made by boney claws that continue into the next room. As Father Sunstone tracked them, Kaina busts down a blocked door and we discover a horrible room! It was a large room with shelves of specimens on the wall, but the room was filled with torture devices that had mutilated and decayed corpses strung over them! It was awful to see, but upon examination, it seemed like the corpses had only been decaying for 2 years. Given how old the place was, that doesn’t make any sense! But Peaches remembered 2 years ago the barrier protecting and preserving the temple was broken, so that barrier must have preserved things here. The Ratfolks estimated based on a tree that grew around the barrier, that the barrier was around for 500 years and the temple was much older than that. So everything down here must be really old!

There was a suspicious pile of bones in the corner of the room, a mix of humanoid and animal bones. We were wary given the scratch marks from earlier, so Father Sunstone tried to attack it with a divine lance while Kaina threw a weapon at it. And sure enough, it shambled to life! Father Sunstone and I acted nearly simultaneously, but I tried to identify what time of undead it was, but it didn’t look like it was undead at all! Some sort of construct, I guess. It had dinosaur skulls on its head, shoulders and hands and it resisted the magic from my spells and Peaches attacks and Kaina started focusing on it. We heard shambling from a room behind us, and soon enough a ginormous fleshwarp behemoth slithers into the room! It was frightening to look at, but I sang a song to distract it. It grabbed and attacked Peaches, who was enlarged. I realized that it had the same properties as undead! So I blasted it with a heal spell and boy it was maaadddd!! It dropped Peaches and grabbed me in her place! I barely managed to wiggle out and finish it off with another healing spell.

But meanwhile, Kaina was still battling the Skeleton construct. The construct was afflicting Kaina with some sort of curse and before we knew it, Kaina suddenly turned to a boney stone! We finished off the weakened skeleton and rushed to Kaina, but they were petrified and there was nothing we could do. At least here. Peaches scouted the dungeon as a beetle, and as the coast was clear, we explored the place, found a few magic items, and then we used a spare cart to load up Kaina’s statue and we (and by ‘we’ I mean Peaches, she is so strong) carried Kaina out of there. Father Sunstone summoned a stead to help carry Kaina, so I hope we can get them treated in Onadbyr soon! I felt useless as I couldn’t help poor Kaina, who already suffers from Malaria, but no one else could help her either, so I’m glad we can take her back to town at least. Once Kaina wakes up, I’ll try to make sure no one calls him a bonehead!
