I will start by saying that I am partially to blame for this. The rest of the blame rests on the shoulders of the Heroic Gambit, which did not have precautions against the consequences of summoning devils to die for show. The long and short of it is that in The Heroic Gambit we had a Barbazu and a handful of imps summoned for us to fight. The Barbazu nearly killed Chrysanthemum, and I did exactly as I told it I would. I drowned it in the quicksand inside a river. That Barbazu apparently had a "lover", in the form of an Erinys. It brought a team of three Barbazu and several Lemures to kill us, more specifically me, who humiliated him in front of a crowd.
It also had several more lemures and imps out and watching over the town as we entered, though they remained passive for the time being. One tried mocking us, but the words of fiends are rarely worth granting an ear. We headed in the performer entrance rather than the front, as I fully expected an ambush to be waiting for us there. Halfway through we found Rent, detained by two imps and without her rings she uses to control the arena. The Erinys took them it appears, and has set up the arena to fight us accordingly.
Accepting her invitation, we head into the arena. Quicksand awaits us in the center, with the aforementioned foes littered about the scattered walls with intent to kill. The Erinys tells me to "apologize" to the former-Barbazu imp by killing myself in the quicksand, but they rejected both my offer to let the imp come down here and do it himself, and for her to show me how well she swims in quicksand. That desecrated Order of the Gate breastplate she wore gave her too much confidence, I believe. For all her bluster, she couldn't slow me down or hurt me much at all as I flew after her on my newly acquired wings. The lemures down below were negligible, and the Barbazus tried their best but were far too scattered. Two got scared off by Serene, two tried to protect the Erinys from me to no avail, and one of the three didn't even manage to escape via dimension door like the other two and the Erinys did. She swore revenge on me once more, but I hope she knows I'll be the one hunting her down in due time.
Rent provided us with the extent of their treasury as a reward, the vault of which was protected by some animal they called the "Heavyweight Champion". It killed several low-level fiends by the looks of it, so it has my respect to some degree. Rent also made a request of Serene and I in addition to asking if we would be willing to come again soon should the fiends cause trouble again, but for security's sake I believe it best not to spoil the secret in easily accessible writing. The Heroic Gambit will not open again for some time, but once it opens up again you all may be able to see it before it becomes unnecessary.
