Trial of the Wheel
The journey west was uneventful. After reaching the remains of the Mountain of Sun Wukong, we discovered a fallen star in a crater on the western ridge, in an area shaded by unnatural darkness. We found smouldering stones inside. A party from the Mitsubishi Clan soon arrived to investigate. They were uninterested in conflict until one of us asked for a fight, which led to a quick skirmish. We won decisively after their initial charge, but magnanimously allowed them to take the fallen star shards regardless.
We descended from the mountains to the great river, past two destroyed bridges before reaching a suspension bridge that was still intact. We then paid tribute at a river shrine.
Eventually we reached the Monastery of the Unfolding Wind, where Maki and Damian stepped forward to answer a challenge from the resident monks. Despite an impressive exertion from our Associates, they had great difficult remaining in arm's reach of the monks due to their magical control of the air. Damian fell from an aerial platform, while the second monk was caught in a blast from Maki and went down near him. The fight between the first monk and Maki was almost too close to call, but ultimately Maki prevailed by relying on a more conservative strategy where she baited her opponent into making mistakes and then took advantage of them.
The master of the monks invited us in for a meal, tasking the others to serve it as penance for their defeat. Over the meal, he made several attempts to convert us to his way of thinking while shaming us for relying on external equipment and resources, including the meal provided for us, which he notably did not participate in. Eventually, the conversation turned to Maki's trial and how we might assist with it.
