Our group met to organize for the mission given to clear out a fortified waypoint being used by a group of goblins that have been causing trouble in the city. Our group of lovely ladies took a bit of time to get to know each other before equipping ourselves and leaving the city.
After several days of travel, we arrived at the goblin fort. It was impressively fortified, with a dry moat filled with spikes surrounding the outside of the structure and guards posted at the entrances. Aleth and I (accompanied by Berta's pet drake which she unfortunately named Stupid) scouted out the area and we began to work out a plan of attack. Emi was quite eager to strike so we decided to move quickly and were able to take out the guards without being noticed.
Berta stayed with Stupid to keep an eye on the front entrance while the rest of us circled to the back to try and finish clearing out the guards. Unfortunately, I gave our approach away when I stepped on a branch (seems I'm a bit out of practice since I haven't been on a mission in quite a while). We were able to down the guards, but not before they alerted the rest of their group to our presence.
Quite a lot of goblins, hobgoblins, and bugbears came flooding out of the fort looking to fight. We also heard quite a bit of commotion coming from the door that Berta was watching. We were worried, but couldn't do much to come to her aid with what was happening at our own entryway. We eventually felled the enemies that had emerged on our side of the fort and rushed to the building to try and come to Berta's aid. By the time we made it to the doors, she was nowhere to be seen. At that point, we were under heavy fire from the goblin archers and so Emi closed and braced the gates for us. Berta appeared looking a bit roughed up, but all the fiercer for the wounds she had built up on the far side of the fort as she approached. We took a moment to catch our breath and regroup before one of the goblins on the inside was able to force open the door.
The gate opening was accompanied by a volley of fire from the inside which did quite a lot of harm to Emi and myself. We were able to eventually push our way in and take out all of the goblin forces except for the goblin general. We question him about the goblin big boss and learn that he is intelligent enough that he is a mage who uses arcane magic.
