A new arrival to the city, Martha Mur, has put in a request through the respectable channels for the recovery of an acquaintance by the name of Peter. Her report states that a bandit group attacked their caravan 1 days journey from here, and kidnapped two of the merchants traveling with them.
Log
I(Rowanne) was just minding my own business in town, when I heard a call for associates. The guard at the northern gates needed a few people to come help urgently, so I decided to make myself useful. I met three others, an toy soldier named Ser Bewwy, an intimidation lady with a large sword named Anima, and a ratfolk gentleman named Phyl. We were informed that some merchants had just arrived, but one of their carts was attacked and two of their party where kidnapped. The guard was less than helpful in getting us anymore information to go off of, so we elected to talk to the other merchants. We met with Martha Mur to ask a few questions. She was acting very strange considering the situation. She said it was of no concern and that we should just let it all be, the mission persons should show up in a few days unharmed. We of course want to do our duty, so we insisted on going to investigate and rescue anyway. She says to travel a days worth north, then when we find the broken cart to travel west and they should be there.
We head out, and we now have time to talk. we talk about how odd the situation is, and the leader not caring about what happened and how it happens quite often. Also one detail she did tell us was that some half-naked men came, not bandits. Why where they half-naked? She must know something else and chose not to tell us.
Eventually we make it to an area with a cart that slammed into a tree. It is empty and heavily damaged. We see that it has been attacked by some large weapon with no signs of magic being used. Anima even finds some footprints that are rather large. Humanoid in shape, but way to big to be human. And barefoot as well. For heavens sake I hope their bottoms halves aren't the ones that are naked!
We then try sneaking through the woods to find Peter and his captors. I was trying to be as quiet as possible, but i'm dummy thicc and the sound of my... hooves... oh nevermind we eventually make it to a clearing with a large pit that looks like it could have been a bandit hideout. We hear loud grunts coming from within. Eventually we are able to see, and there are 5 large brutes doing heavens knows what and what we assume to be Peter and Mary. The two are sort of tied up, but not really and the brutes are, well being brutes but they are piling wood up around the two captives. We devise a plan to distract them while Ser Bewwy goes in for the rescue.
Phyl puts a curious pink substance in his mouth and starts chewing it profusely, then after some strange mouth movements starts blowing a bubble with the stuff. It pops eventually, and the brutes come to investigate. OH, apparently they are called Neanderthals, according to Phyl.
We eventually dispatch all of the Neanderthals, but not the way we expected. They didn't bleed, or show signs of pain. Their wounds would sparkly and shoot motes of light out, until the bodies where enveloped in light. Eventually they would then fade away. The same happened to me, I got hit hard (or at least it looked to be hard I didn't even feel it) and fell unconscious. But after getting healed via a potion from Phyl I was unharmed. Only small signs of that strange light coming from where I presume I got hit.
Eventually, Peter explained it all to us in great(and babbling) detail.
- My family is cursed
- The eldest male is visited once every 3 months by these Neanderthals, Hugo and the boys.
- They attempt to sacrifice the victim and anyone who happened to get caught up with them.
- The victims reappear after 24 hours, unscathed.
- If Hugo and company are killed, they come back stronger within a week until they succeed in their mission
- Having children lowers the amount of 'visits' to once a year
Well, that was not what any of us expected. Apparently Peter just forgot what day this was supposed to happen because he was so infatuated with one of the merchants traveling with them (Mary).
We decide this probably should be brought up to the council so that we can at the very least make sure the next 'visit' from Hugo goes smoothly without any more collateral damage, be it physical or mental or otherwise.
