Associates investigate an abandoned farm and come across some rather unfriendly scarecrows.

Log

Summer 231. No ill omens, despite circumstances.

---

After hearing reports of strange occurrences coming from a deserted farm, we were beseeched to take a look in order to see if anything of note could be found. The journey there was uneventful, and once we arrived, my fellow associates and I all began our search despite the darkness blanketing the property. With the sun having gone and the fields steeped in shadow, things could have become far more difficult, all things considered.

Admittedly, I was unable to understand the language in which some of my fellows spoke. Even so, we managed to go further into the farmlands, coming across a long-overgrown cornfield. While I did not detect anything related to magic, our discovery of some odd-looking, pumpkin-headed scarecrows soon gave rise to what we had been searching for. They were upon us before we knew it, all the while swarms of insects and grasping vines battered our defenses.

There was little time to breathe in between waves of these strange creatures, leading to quite a few close calls. It is unfortunate I did not foresee such an event occurring—perhaps it was my folly to have avoided looking deeper.

That being said, we still managed to fend off the manner of creatures that had attacked us. It was not a particularly easy fight, but we managed to make it through. Though, I must add, while recovering from the encounter, we noticed another swarm of insects that lingered for a time. Perhaps they were waiting for something?

Regardless, the rest of our search yielded little more information, so one can only assume that the scarecrows were the culprits behind the strange happenings. After investigating the farmhouse for good measure, we decided to return to town after once more successfully surviving another expedition.
