(associates help Sir Galahad with some trouble deep underground)
Log
Log penned by Swaying Petals
Drake Biloko told us about a job request from Sir Galahad who needed some associates to help with something in Munavri Village, a village deep underground that no associates have visited yet. Going down into the caves was me, Samara, Sanguine and Valena, and Quill. I hoped this trip wouldn’t go as badly for Quill and I as it did last time we were underground! We entered the basement of Drake Biloko’s house, and things were busy here due to all the activity. There was a guy in Raven Knight armor who greeted us as Sir Galahad and he led us towards Munavri village. He told us that there was some trouble afoot there, but he couldn’t investigate without drawing too much attention. So he needed us to investigate and draw some attention while he does his own thing. Quill and Samara were eager to “root out whatever evil” that is lurking the village.
After a day of travel, we arrive at the village and it looks dire. There are bones scattered in piles everywhere and in the crumbling buildings we can peer through the empty doorways to see some Munavri hanging about. It was sad to see them living in such a slum.. Apparently, they have psychic abilities and mainly communicate telepathically, so it would be difficult to get them to speak out loud. This was also made difficult because none of us spoke Sakvroth. We asked around, looking for someone who spoke common, when we entered some sort of crematorium or butchershop that had one Munavri chopping up a corpse and another stirring a pot of some sort of acid! Eeek! The one at the pot luckily spoke common and was friendly in answering our questions. Apparently, they’ve had a lot of people die and are having trouble with all the corpses. Samara helped him make a stronger acid to break down the bones, which he appreciated. He still thought that there was a war raging between all the factions of the underground, which makes me wonder how isolated the people in this area are.
He also told us of some ruins nearby that no one goes near anymore after some children were killed by some unseen force. They seemed pretty nonchalant about the death and not being able to investigate.
We thanked him for his time, and we moved closer to the ruins, where a delinquent Munavri milled about. We asked him some questions and he said some awful stuff about just being there waiting to die. Apparently the kids that died were his friends and all he saw were chains that silently and violently whipped out of the dark and tore off their heads. Before we could ask more questions, I noticed something moving out in the distance towards the ruins: some big things!
Out from the ruins come two blurry giants, swinging their chains wildly. They looked injured and desperate to move away from whatever they were running from behind them. Though they just seemed to want to move through where we were standing, they still attacked anyone who stood in their way. I dazzled them with a flash of light and Sanguine made one start laughing. Quill kept dancing around them, striking out where they could while Valena flanked. One giant tried to pass through, but as he did Sir Galahad appeared from the ruins. He effortlessly floated above the ground, standing in front of the fleeing giant. Sir Galahad struck him down with a decisive blow, and stood aside to let us deal with the remaining giant.
The last giant, beaten and bloodied, grabs Samara and tries to take her hostage, saying something in Joten that we can’t understand. Quill and Sanguine continue chipping away at him, so he lets Samara go and drops his weapon, seemingly to surrender. As a follower of Sarenrae, I knew it would be wrong to kill an enemy that could be redeemed, so I tried to convince Quill and Sanguine to stop, but they continued and Sir Galahad seemed to encourage us to kill the giant. I try to grab Quill’s leg to get them to stop, but they wouldn’t listen to me, saying that Arazni commands to never forgive those who have hurt you. Samara also tried to save the giant and Quill then asked us: are we are willing to have the blood of the innocent on our hands by letting this creature live? Samara seemed to feel insulted by this and marched over to slap Quill face! Quill retaliated by commanding her to kneel, which she refused.
Quill finally slayed the giant, staring coldly at Samara as she walked away from them. The killing was met with a congratulations from Sir Galahad. I was trying to defuse the situation and I asked Sir Galahad some questions since he was also gung ho about killing the giants. He said something about how he didn’t understand what the giant was saying and that the surrender was nonsense. But I realized something about what Samara said earlier. Apparently, in a past log someone wrote down that Sir Galahad was a Vilderavn, but I don’t quite know what that is. The log said that Vilderravn are known for deception at the last second. I also know that someone of his skill should have True Speech active, and when I asked him, he said he does have True Speech and that he actually just didn’t care to understand what a child-murdering enemy was saying. He also apologized to me for putting me in the situation of a surrendering enemy when I am a cleric of Sarenrae. I accepted this apology, but the situation still didn’t sit right with me.
Sir Galahad started to lead us out of the town, with our job apparently done. All the people in the slum were standing around idly, looking dazed. I went into the shop from earlier and tried to ask the still potion guy what was going on. The potion guy looks at me and returned to his usual self, saying that everyone is okay and that they are just talking telepathically. I accepted this explanation, but as we returned to the group, Samara pointed out that people don’t normally need to stay that still in order to communicate. That paired with how little the people know of the world, or even what is going on elsewhere underground, other than the stories Sir Galahad has told them, makes me think that something suspicious is going on.
On the way back, Samara and I stayed together while Quill kept their distance from her. When we rested, Sir Galahad left us and Samara and I talked about his suspicious behavior. Samara even said that his apology to me was just lip service, and I’m actually inclined to agree! Whatever is going on down here, I think that we’d need to investigate Sir Galahad and make sure that these poor people living in Munavri Way are properly cared for. I guess we didn’t directly ask Sir Galahad about the strange isolated behavior of the people there, but I felt like he would have had an explanation to cover up any concerns. Gosh, the underground sure is complicated, it seems like Quill and I don’t have a good time when we come down here.
Back beneath Drake Biloko’s house, Sir Galahad offered to deliver a moisturizing gel to Samara later. Samara accepted, but I wonder if it was such an innocent gift after all.
