Cats are smashing lights in Cat Village. We follow them and fight them as they open a veil of darkness, unleashing 4 mighty beasts upon the land.

Log

It was a long journey to get to Cat Village. The trip was nice, though I did have to keep on high alert due to the sun-scorned associate that was traveling with our group. No incidents though, so that was good. Would have been a shame to have had to stake her while out on a mission. . .

We were supposed to meet someone name Batective. Wasn't really sure what to believe about him until we met him. He was a bat. And a detective. Figures. Turns out that the lights in town are being knocked off of their stands. In a town full of cats. Anyways, the bat told us about some sort of tentacled cat that terrorized the city a few years ago. He thought it might be that thing again. We decided to keep an eye on the lights once night fell. We went off to explore town before meeting back up. I came across a nice garden where a big fight apparently happened. It was great!

We set up our assignments and spent the night on watch. A weird cat comes by my light and picks up a rock with its tail before smashing the light. I followed the trail through town and met with some of the others as the trail left town. We all gathered and followed the trail into the forest. We follow the trail deep into the night before we are finally forced to stop and rest. We resume the next morning and quickly come across the cats doing something at an old ritual circle that's apparently dedicated to some Eldest called Count Ranalc? He likes darkness so I guess this all makes sense. Guys who like darkness wouldn't really like light. The sun-scorned seemed to know an awful lot about this god of darkness, but it wasn't really the time to make and issue of things. Instead, we ran forward to stop the cats from finishing their ritual. The ritual activated just as I finished off the first cat and some big badger-looking creature appeared before the area was enveloped in darkness. Several more creatures (some thing with a bunch of arms, a tree, and a dragon-looking thing that didn't know how to shut up) appeared too before running away. We finally killed the cats and the big badger-looking thing.

Once all the cats were dead, the hole closed but the darkness stayed in place. We made our way back to town, but the darkness reached all the way to town. I think we're going to have to stick around this town for a bit to hunt down the other monsters that escaped. If they manage to kill off the dryads and naiads, Count Ranalc will be freed. This is shaping up to be a fun fight, though this darkness seems a bit inconvenient for the others.

Things are dark now in Cat Village. Several more Associates arrive and join our group. We take a night of rest and then head off to fight the fire tree, since it's closest to town and moving to kill off the naiads. We follow the river and come across the corpse of the naiad's guardian beast. Not anymore. We speed up our pace and find that some of the naiads have also been killed.

We follow the river and eventually come across a storm that the tree has summoned. It's been a while since last time I played Dodge the Lightning and I was a bit rusty. Got nailed pretty good by a few bolts while we approached but it wasn't too bad overall. The naiad queen was still alive when we arrived, so that was good. We ran forward to fight the tree and the other plants that were fighting on its side. The fight was great. The tree kept shooting out thorns at everyone and trying to club us with its branches. Both were poisoned with some pretty strong stuff. It took some work, but we were eventually able to kill the tree by slowly chopping it to bits (turns out that my tonfa weren't much good against it. I had to rely on the dagger that Berta lent me to chip away at it before Aster finished it off with his big axe.)

Two monsters left- the four armed thing and the weird dragon. Best trip ever.

Log

After resting and recovering from our fight with the Sard we met up with Batective to catch him up on their progress. Afterwards we made our way to Dogburg, god that's a stupid name, and met up with Kirrily on the way. Apparently she got so excited to get to the next fight that she went ahead without us. Can't way that I blame her, despite how big of the threat these things are and how much of a pain they are, they've made for some pretty good fights. Anyways, once we got to the town we saw that the forest next to it was caught in a wildfire, and the guards were trying to fight off a group of fay spirits called Elananx and Marrmora. That...was a rough battle. Apparently Marrmora are able to take away a person's ability to resist being burned by flames. It had been a long time since fire had hurt me that much. Thank god for that flower lady, Chrysanthemum I think her name was? If it wasn't for her I don't think I'd have lived through today. Anyways, after we dealt with the Marrmora the Elananx fled once they realized they wouldn't be able to pick any of us off.

Deciding that we couldn't waste any time to try and fight the forest fire now, we tracked down the Thrasfyr to a veritable wasteland filled with burning patches of ground and pools of magma. Looked more like hell had come to Kelek than an actual forest. The Thrasfyr had killed most of the dryads already but we thankfully got there before it could kill the queen. The fight that occured next was just as difficult as the one against the Sard. The thing that was riding atop of the Thrasfyr, can't remember the name of it for the life of me, went down pretty easily. After it did though the Thrasfyr flew into some sort of rage, and unlike it's rider the Thrasfyr wasn't exactly too bothered by my flames. Annoying. The bastard was tough, even managed to knock Chrys down for a bit which was quite the scare. Thankfully she got back up pretty quick. Not too long after that we managed to kill it, with that vampire chick Melfyra kept summoning iron spike from the ground to impale it giving me enough time to split the red son of a dragon's skull open down to it's chest. After making sure the dryad queen was still alive, and taking time to chop one of the Thrasfyr's horns as a trophy, we quickly headed back to Dogburg.

When we got there we took a moment to gather a bit of info about where a vorpal weapon might be. Sheeri and I talked to the mayor and she tried to speak some bullshit but I wasn't really in the mood. After getting her to just talk she said that there were rumors that Cat Village might have a vorpal blade of some kind. After getting back to said village and talking to their mayor it sounds like the rumor might be true. Apparently the mayor of Cat Village had previously held a family heirloom that held the name of Vorpal. I said previously had because apparently some time ago some creatures, that Melfyra and I were quickly able to figure were most likely Tooth Fairies, had stolen the blade for some reason. My best guess is that the mayor had been so neglectful of maintaining the blade that it had gone dull enough to look like one giant tooth. Honestly surprised I didn't burst into flame with how pissed that made me. To have something handed down from your ancestors and treat it like like a wall decoration not even worth looking after, fucking disgraceful.

Anyways, after regrouping with the others and Batective we inform him again of what's going on. Out next plan of action I imagine is to find those fairies and get that blade from them, maybe even do so peacefully. Who knows.

All I know is that I can't wait to kill me a Jabberwock. I'm currently 3 for 3 when it comes to killing Tane, would hate to ruin this killstreak.

Log

Sorry this took so long, and sorry for the briefness of this expedition log compared to the others that I've done. Our party headed to the camp of tooth fairies that Batective told us about. Once there we learned that the tooth fairies gave the vorpal sword to their Queen. After dueling the strongest one there they let us go through a portal that lead to their Queen's location. From there we made a deal with the Queen. If we got rid of the source of the magical darkness that's been such a problem, which turned out to be the ritual site where the Tane had been summoned from, then she'd give us the vorpal blade and enough material to restore it. Fast forwards a good chunk of time and the deal is complete and we have a Jabberwock-killing sword. Deciding to make sure the party that'll actually kill it has some info to work with we decide to scout the area that it had decided to make its home. After getting all the info we could we decided to not take any more risks and left.

We made our way to the Jabberwock's lair. The dragon corpse is still there, but the Jabberwock has definitely been treating the body with no care. We went in and found the beast. It even had two heads! Being near the Jabberwock was just as unsettling as before, even being able to see it. Might have even been worse. Had to just tamp that down after the initial reaction and charge it. The stupid thing kept trying to run away while keeping up a wind that made approaching it far harder than it should have been. We finally managed to corner the thing and knock it down so that I could use the magic sword to finish it off. It was a bit of a pain to deal with, but a relatively satisfying fight. There are definite ways I could have done better in the fight. I'll have to do better next time we have the chance to hunt down Tane.
