Log

The cannibal Rinazomi desires protein meat from some snake-y creatures. They've claimed an abandoned kitchen after a dragon incident, and wants to stock up on meats in order to "gain money" to "scam" others by buying their goods. No one seemed to tell this fool what a job is. She also was only thinking it was snakes, but I recognized she was really speaking of proteans who reside in a particular library, who are typically snake shaped.

The journey is uneventful and we arrive at the library, which at first appears to be a single room with a single bookshelf - a paltry excuse for such a library. Hogo uncovers a book about secret passages that reveals a secret passage behind the bookshelf. The books in here must be valuable if they are hidden away. Proceeding through the library we find the snake-y enemies we were looking for. Some blue proteans appear to be residing here and some greenish ones are hiding among the books with spellcasting capabilities. Some of the blue ones manage to teleport behind our front lines, but I leave that issue to the toy knight and the psychics. The others remain a thorn in my side, so I continue dealing with the threats ahead of us with the assistance of Hogo. Somehow, the casters managed to survive their ordeal.

Among our group, we lacked any experts in butchering meat - at least, for food preparation. But we were able to carve off enough usable meat to fill much of the preserving bag the hungerseed gave us (in the time it took to do this, Hogo and I healed everyone with our divine gifts). But her explicit instructions were to fill the bag, so we continued deeper into the library. In a cage of some kind was a gibbering kobold, either muttering in necril or chthonian - no one could properly identify or speak the language so it will remain a true mystery. It teleported out of its enclosure and followed us, like a lost dog. The next major section of the library was labyrinthine, with some more of the blue proteans hiding in dead ends - not an issue for our party, as we stuck together. Whoever designed this library to be this obtuse should be publicly flogged for their weaponized incompetence.

One of the paths had another suspicious book about stealing books, which Hogo pocketed, and revealed another hidden passage, showing a somewhat out-of-place grand foyer with statues and a large door. As we went through the door, the kobold dashed between our feet and transformed into another protean, as we were suddenly surrounded by his large protean form and more of the blue ones. He got the drop on us and summoned forth a fog that was as difficult to see through as it was to move. It must have thought itself clever, as it proved time and time again that without a way to see through the fog, it and its minions were just as hindered at killing us as we were them. The toy employed a hit and run tactic that faltered with the fog spell, and so instead took a brave stance in front of the large protean, aiming to disrupt any more spells flung our way. Hogo seemed to have no issues with seeing through this fog, and so I decided to leave the fog's radius in order to fight the spell slinging snake with the toy, leaving the remaining proteans to the casters who can blast the area and Hogo who could see properly. With our combined might even these snakes couldn't withstand us, and we were able to carve off enough meat to fill the bag and bring it back to the city.
