Log

Rina wants chimera meat now, since they're made of multiple beasts they must have a variety of meats. Not an incorrect assumption. Just like before, kill some beasts, collect the meat.

We sent off to find a known nesting spot, where three chimeras lived. Perhaps it might be some remnant of their constituent beasts' instincts to nest, but I don't believe there were even any eggs, and it was unclear if any of these beasts were partnered. When we arrived 2 were present and aggressive, immediately coming down to attack us. They stayed up in the air just out of Hogo's gun's range, but they didn't stay airborne for long. One with a dragon's head came down and screamed loud enough it may have burst Reiker's eardrums. We figured out quickly these beasts' heads can act independently, to a degree, and could attack to interrupt our spell casting. A stroke of luck on the beast's part, interrupting me when I was about to deliver a sliver of the pain my lady, the Unyielding Arazni bestowed upon me. Unfortunately for the beast, while it may interrupt my ability to channel divine might, it could not hold up to my oaths to put impudent creatures in their place, or to my steel as I began to carve off the still-living flesh.

The third chimera also made itself known, this one having forgone the flight its counterparts had for superior swimming. A survival tactic that gave it no advantages while facing us. We quickly whittled down the dragon-headed chimera, but still head to contend with the other two - a flying chimera with a ghostly beast's head, and the swimming one with a large worm head. The psychics were already getting overwhelmed, and our meager ability to restore our ability to fight was already wearing down. While Hogo sought to distract the swimming chimera, I made daring moves to swiftly take down the phantasmal flyer, but it begins to flee. Hogo is apprehended by the worm's jaws, and it seems to try to eat him, but Reiker manages to yank Hogo out of the maw of the beast. As I move to assist in killing the swimmer, the remaining flyer touches back down to assault the psychics, dropping Reiker. Hogo hoses him down to return him to life and kills the flyer.

The final chimera had managed to swallow me whole, but Arazni's teachings made it more than trivial for me to escape its insides. With the death of its comrades and its own death impending, it recognizes my might and attempts to make do with much easier targets. This meant the psychics became targets of its aggression, but unfortunately for it, it remained the target of mine. I confidently provoked its attack in order to make my steel bite harder, but I wasn't able to finish the job. With a blast of water, Kora manages to kill the creature on its last legs.

We packed the bag full of meat. Rina gave us a bunch of parts pulled from the various beasts. If nothing else, thanks to the experience I gained here, I've gotten a new idea for how to put foes in their place.
