Log
Apologies for the state of the log, there are... significant patches in my memory, for reasons that may become obvious shortly. The same situation befell the rest of the party, so much of the reality of what happened during our job is lost to the alcohol.
A catfolk named Taktor the Tipsy has apparently been looking for a really nice set of panpipes to play and at their hairs' ends, turned to the Associates for something called a "Butterfly Bender". It's apparently a ritual where we get drunk, and I figured early in that thanks to Lady Nanbyo's curse, the alcohol would simply... burn out of my body easily, as it normally does. Hearing more about the details of the ritual, Kirrily and I decide to try to keep track of Taktor, but something went really wrong. Maybe the dwarves in Ashenforge gave us the really strong stuff, or Taktor slipped something in, but we all woke up in Desperate Hope in various states of disarray. I woke up with a tie around my head and covered in paint, which I promptly washed off, and with a miniature in my pocket. Wandering around I found that someone had nailed some manifesto regarding Oni to Grist's office door. Looking around for my companions but desperately lost in... Desperate Hope... I come across someone who has lost a hat, but she kept giving me so many details and her whole life story that I just walked away to go see if I could find her hat. I pass a priest of some kind, but I know their type and continue along, eventually finding my way "outside" the structure, still under the Under Bright dome near the river where I see Vliegen and some crazy guy with a staff. I pass by him and realize that Vliegen has the hat for some reason, and that we're all in the same boat. No one's seen Kirrily, but we later found her back in Onadbyr so she's fine.
Vliegen gives me the hat, but we decide to replace one of the feathers in the cap with one of Vliegen's, letting him keep the other. There was a murder but I got the feeling that wasn't related to us, so Vliegen went to find the Warden to deal with the crazy guy, while I returned the hat and continued looking around for people who might recognize us. Vliegen seemed to have gotten married too. I returned the hat easily, and looking around I found a door that had been locked, and another crazy person inside who refused to come out. Sounds like Desperate Hope is just full of lunatics. He mentioned some priest, and when I went to talk to the others, Taru was doing a spell that let her talk to corpses, and Victoria had successfully restrained the crazy guy. The corpse mentioned that it was stabbed and bitten by some kind of vampire, saw a priestly figure, and that a banana peel was placed as if it would have distracted the authorities from the STAB AND BITE WOUNDS. Real intelligent guy.
With the bit about the priest we go find the priest I ignored earlier and he mentions that he saw the murder and blesses us in the name of Ayrzul? The crazy guy who locked himself away (not the crazy guy with the staff) seemed to want to talk to the priest, or deal with him, so we dressed up Taru in a priest's outfit that she had for some reason, and the guy happened to be a vampire spawn or something. He told us that he was summoned by a coven of hags to kill the guy on the bridge, and that they had some satyr and his panpipes, before he blinked out of existence, apparently having been manifested for too long. So I had the bright idea that since we got tricked by Taktor the Tipsy, I began tracking him into a swampy forest between the outpost and Onadbyr, coming across more spawn and being welcomed into the coven's home. A contract devil was there, and I connected the dots that Vliegen got married to the devil. Apparently Taktor in his own drunken stupor managed to sign away his soul for the panpipes and got stuffed in some doll. Unfortunately we still needed to be paid for the job, and we did help Taktor find what he was looking for with the ritual, but he was obviously unhappy with his situation and begged to be freed. He signed the contract, so we decided to leave him like that, but we arranged with the hags to let him have the ability to play and occasionally go out to have drinks, and in exchange they let us have his money. So happy ending for everyone! On that note, Taru also taught the hags a spell to keep Taktor's body fresh, for whatever reasons.
