We delve deeper into the undead-infested sewers and wipe out a powerful servant of Nhimbaloth.

Log

Venturing into the sewers is far from ideal for a mission, but we do as we must to take care of issues here in the city. We aren't the first group that's been down here (see: Beneath the Town. This time around, it's dead silent (pun intended) and the bodies of undead slain by the previous group are scattered throughout the area. We find a previously unopened door to the south.

Down a short hallway is a room with a beheaded statue of Sarenrae and two cells containing large humanoid corpses. Berta's lack of any sort of caution quickly gets her into trouble when one of the corpse's hands animates and grabs her. Ishi discovers a secret passage while poking around a wall in the room that was clearly created to be some sort of mausoleum.

In the following room, a ghostly priest of Sarenrae greets us wielding the statue's head as a weapon. The priest repeatedly calls for a true believer of the light. We have a brief conversation with the entity and it attempts to call Crys to it, but is refused. It does not react well to the refusal and attacks so we quickly strike it down. It drops a three-pronged key as it fades to the Boneyard.

We find a door that seems to match the key in the Northeast corner of the sewers. The door leads to an open earthen chamber with a large group of undead on the far side. They don't initially react to our presence. Unusual for the undead.

We take a moment to prepare and then enter the room. Finally, the horde acts as expected and attacks! Forty isn't an easy number to take down, but we manage it with less injuries than I would have initially predicted.

We proceed down a tunnel, clearly added after the initial structure which eventually leads to a door that is warded against entry by undead. We open the door and are met by a room filled with dark crystals. Blood drips from the ceiling. On the far side of the door, there are wards connected to Nhimbaloth. (Note: For those unaware, Nhimbaloth is the evil god of mists, drowning in swamps, and killing psychopomps) When Nhimbaloth's name is mentioned, leeches begin to swarm within the blood and gather into the form of some sort of monstrous creature which attacks us. Each of us ends the fight soaked in blood, much of it our own. The leeches scatter into the pool of blood. We desperately work to wipe out the leeches with fire and just succeed.

I need a bath. I never even entered the pool of blood but I had nearly as much blood on me by the end of things as the others did. At least no one died.
