It's been a while since I went into the depths of Drake Biloko's basement, and apparently a lot has been going on down there. One of the new factions who came to work with Drake and the associates needed help to conquer another faction, and the way to do that was to eliminate their benefactors, some shadowy creatures known as Owbs. Apparently all Caligni are tied to powerful owbs, but eliminating them would weaken the standing of the other faction. They already arranged to have stolen the ritualistic rites beforehand, now it was our job to slay the owbs. Fell'ina the Caligni helped us to summon them, but we were fairly short of hands, as only Kirrily, Rowyn and I showed up at first.
We went into the ritual chambers and we prepared to fight. The first owb appeared and washed away the light from Kirrily's glowing compass, but it seemed that neither Kirrily nor Rowyn had any real ability to attack them while mid-air, at least not right away, so I leapt into action and managed to topple it to the ground, enabling the others to assist. Before we could slay the first, two more appeared from the shadows, and then a third shortly after. They proved dangerous, but not overly so - the most annoying thing about them was their ability to encase us in ice with their cold blasts, preventing us from moving. Kirrily and I got stuck in place for a short while, and one of the owbs managed to grievously wound Rowyn. It seemed dire for him, when suddenly the room filled with light as Chrys showed up, fashionably late and just in time to save the day.
It seemed like the shadow monsters were sensitive to light, as their attacks suddenly became much more difficult to perform. Chrys brought Rowyn back from the brink, and we manage to kill another one. While one was being hassled by the rest of us, another that Kirrily went after began to cast a spell at the altar, which Kirrily was able to impede. Sensing the danger of the situation, I left the other with Rowyn and Chrys, and charged in to give Kirrily support. With my help, she was able to take down the monster before it could finish whatever vile and shadowy plans it had for us. The last one, apparently the only one with any sense of self preservation, disappeared into a shadow.
With the fight over, we noticed that Fell'ina was looking more flushed than normal, and we were able to figure out that the Caligni's conditions were caused by a curse tied to the owbs. With the owb that cursed the Caligni dead, the curse had begun to lift. The other owb is still out there somewhere, probably. If it was smart, it would go back to the shadow realm or wherever it came from and stay there.
