Dogberg
Dogberg is a dog-centric village of approximately 200 people and a potentially equal amount of dogs. Situated approximately 1 mile from the nearest river, the village lives off ranching and hunting, with a small farm industry that goes hand-in-hand with its lumber industry. The village itself is visibly poor, making no effort to hide its lack of prosperity or contain its limited wealth to inside the walls. Regardless, the people here are focused and know hard work is required to survive, making every display of emotion significantly more genuine than that of their dissembling rivals, Cat Village.
Districts
Northlear
The residential and industrial core of Dogberg, this is where most businesses will be found. There are also abandoned houses with squatters located inside, but Dogberg's mayor makes no efforts to push them out as long as they cause no trouble. This makes Northlear ideal for travelers, with cheap or even free homes to stay in overnight, provided you can put up with less than ideal conditions.
Notable Locations
- Avengers of the Falcon Headquarters is a large 2 story building that functions as both an adventurer's guild and the mayor's house, with Ambice Tookweed (Female Halfling) functioning as the leader of both. She is secretly backed by an information broker in town known as "Mistress Seloura" who helps ensure rogue elements are dealt with by the guild's kill-for-money system.
- Penitent Botanicals is the main place to go for all your herbal needs, and is, if you're in the know, appropriately located in the furthest eastern location of the city, tucked away from prying eyes. You can get anything you need here, if Seloura lets them know you're worthy. If you're just a dime-a-dozen traveler, well, at least they sell plenty of medicinal herbs and treatments.
- Man Leather, the main-road leatherworks shop most travelers see on their way through Dogberg, is placed perfectly at the intersection of all 4 main roads in and out of the village. Though its name sounds gruesome, its aesthetic becomes far more clear when you see the large sign of a biceped arm, the words "Man Leather" tattooed across them. This leatherworks shop that specializes in gear for adventurers, and is one big temple to Kurgess The Strong Man. Its owner, Jalannadral Ouroriel (Nonbinary Dragonblood human), is as impressively muscular as a priest of Kurgess should be.
- The Goodrodgers Place is a house-turned-bar, operating on the main road right beside the south-west gate. Rumors are abound of this place, how people go in and out of this location days apart, some never coming out at all. Unconfirmed rumors, certainly, but concerning ones nonetheless.
Westower
The residential area located outside the city on the south-western end, its roads are lined with homes and few businesses with a tent town to its north. Many people here are willing to rent out their homes to travelers or help them get set up in the tent town, which seems like a hangout spot for adventurers and cocky teens as much as it is a place for the impoverished.
Notable Locations
- Dogberg Market, open on the 3rd of every week, is the place to go for seeing what the less centralized sellers have to offer. Located on a big stone platform near the edge of town, it's hard to miss if you pass through that gate.
- The Sparkling Son is an inn on the road halfway to the gate, ran by Rimerwen Eyllisdlues (Female Elf) and is a good, cheap place to stop in, get a drink, and a decent quality room for the night. No scary rumors about this place, but the booze isn't as good.
- Statue to the Lady, a statue of a beautiful and imposing woman with no name to it. Could be anyone, really, its been there a long time and nobody knows who it was dedicated to.
Markgate
A tiny residential area on the north end of town, it has no notable locations but is notably its own small cul-de-sac owned by the families of an old adventuring party that once retired there. If you're looking for stories, there are many tales passed down from parent to child they can tell.
