Log
- We volunteer and meet councilman Shiki Moru
- Monitoring a digsite, found one that has some ruins of note
- The ruins were likely built between the last apocolypse and the one prior (60-80 years back)
- The trip is a few days there and back, and ideally we'll be meeting the councilman's contacts at the camp
- Movement away from areas on site. Small earthquake revealed more ruins, no current occupants likely.
- We arrive at a campsite and scout the place out. No sign of undead or other threats, and we set a watch order.
- Nothing of note overnight.
- Smooth travel coming up to the fourth day.
- Shiki Moru provides food, some rations and even some real meat and cheese!
- We arrive at a forest encampment and meet "Lives for Lies" and "Uncovers-The-Truth"
- This group is "SUSS", Society Under Semi-Autonomous Shambles.
- NPCs:
- Merry Mac
- Lizbelle
- Ary
- Violet
- Lives for Lies is a great smuggler of people and items
- Cutter and Shiki Moru talk privately:
- Papers found around the ruins were written in a cipher of undercommon and elvish
- There could be sign of an existing civilization or a cult related to the ruins
- Lives for Lies claims he grew up in ruined city of Yharnin, escaped on a ship attacked by two krakens, that he has a wife and six adopted kids. This dude really loves to tell lies as it turns out.
- Surprising lack of bodies at the ruins, nothing old. Either people didn't die or they were fully destroyed
- After Cutter studies the cipher, he finds it is half instructions and half coordinates.
- Seems to point to a particular area of the ruins * this is the same area that Shiki Moru had in his notes
- Bright Eyes shows up out of nowhere, potentially listening in on Cutter and Moru
- With the world ending so frequently, we're not getting the elves that have lived 500 years. Some elves survive one, even two apocalypses. Elves that live through one almost always hoard like no tomorrow in preparation for the next.
- Uncovers the Truth and violet had caught a stag and are making soup!
- We pair with NPCs on watch. Looking around the camp it seems they've scored coin and archeological finds from other ruins. This seems to be a very well-equipped camp of explorers.
- We dig into some vension for breakfast
- We travel to the dig site. There has been little prior investigation.
- Cliff is about 30 feet tall, potentially an entrance nearby.
- Inscriptions found in a cave inside the cliffs
- When untouched I am worth nearly nothing, yet people live or die by my value. My value is money, yet I can be used and not return. The earth hold me, yet I can come from beyond the skies. Set me in the body, mind, and soul, and see your way forward.
- There's a statue that has three slots for some gem or something
- "Beware the corridor, there are trials of atheleticism and wit".
- We find there are a bunch of traps down this nondescript corridor
- Find some placards on the side of a large cave:
- Right: Right Left Right, and then a pattern most unlike it, Left Left Right
- Left: Praise enlightened one, let your wisdom guide us here, patterns you whisper.
- This references a famous story of an acolyte of Iori. "The best place to start is the middle, because then you can adjust."
- We follow a line of squares that teleport you back upon stepping in the wrong place. Seems half the puzzle may be ruined
- We find ruins of an old building here, an odd mix of wood and metal construction - not very sturdy.
- We find all sorts of papers, records, formulas, etc. Perhaps there's some information on how to stop apocalypse #9... but we're too late for #8.
- The maps here show other sites to go to
- This is clearly some kind of initiation or test for a group attempting to store information on stopping apocalypses!
