Sent to Pettyport to charter passage to an island chain rumoured to be a respository for a wizard's treasure, we found an old captain named Ironears (and an old ship also named Ironears) and hired them for the journey at a price of just a few silver. The journey wasn't difficult, but on arrival we were surprised to find the entire area seemed to be in miniature. Tiny trees, tiny islands, a tiny dormant volcano, and so forth. Though this effect didn't clearly extend beneath the water's surface.

A poem on the treasure map indicated a sequence of islands for us to land on to reveal the treasure. Or so we thought. This went without incident for the first few islands, but while exploring a crater lake, I was struck by noxious tentacles from the deep. I rowed on past to ground on the beach in relative safety, while Damian fought the monster beneath the surface. It proved to be more dangerous than it was durable. After this, we were wary of entering the water again, but we found this to be the only way to reach our last objectives.

We practiced diving on shipwrecks we found, where we learned Damian was far better at diving than I am. Finally, we found we had no alternative but to dive to the bottom of a basin sixteen fathoms deep - measured with a weighted rope, that is. With help from an air bladder I made out of an old waterskin, Damian had a chat with a skeletal sailor down there - not a great friend of the wizard, it seems - and this gave us the way to the treasure, at the site of another shipwreck.

Having completed his challenge, it seems the wizard 'bequeathed' us with his conjuration staff, an unusually explosive fire lance, and a second lance fashioned from a unicorn's horn. We sold the staff to finance the expedition and it was agreed I would take the fire lance (or 'blasting lance') as the one most likely to be able to use it safely, but I paid the others the pawn value of lance fashioned from the unicorn's horn.
