Constable Acton has hired us to investigate a gathering in the abandoned district where a bunch of people disappear in the middle of the night. They sent an associate in previously, and they got kicked out. Already sounds suspicious from the start. We were told to send in a report in three days. Some of us misread the dress code of the gathering, with Uravas, Arumi, Quan and I showing up with masks, thinking it would be a masquerade ball. Quan brought extra masks just in case he needed them. We decide to split into groups of two to get into the place: those groups being Uravas and Arumi, Patton Quill and Petals, Quan and Kora, and me on my own. (Patton joined me before we got in, he seemed really nervous). The bouncers were specifically checking for associates before letting us in, and wanted to make sure we were unarmed. They must not have known I was an associate, because I barely disguised myself for this. They tried to check Patton's wand of pet cache when he put Cress away, I convinced them that it was harmless. We're led into a room with a blue portal, and that takes us to a palace, with a sign in front labeled "Lucky A Lady". It reminded me of Lucky when she was still an associate, but that correlation's probably nothing. I do wonder how she's doing though. Anyways, we find out that there are rabbit poppets staffing the place, with a kitsune running the front counter. We get the few weapons we brought checked, and are given chips in exchange for 10 gold. It looks like this is a casino. I head to the bar, thinking that that was the best place to start looking for information. I order the house specialty, and receive a pink drink. It's strong, I think that's enough booze for one night. The other guy at the bar had way more to drink than I did, a guy named Imdrew. He found out about the place yesterday, and was only here for the free drinks, and gave me his tokens. Looks like no matter how much I play, I can safely walk out of here with more than I spent initially. I figure I might as well take a risk and join a game of blackjack with Quill, Petals, and a sailor. He tells us that he's been here for five nights. Seems like this place popped up pretty recently. After losing one game and winning another, I figure that I'd cut my losses and mingle on the dance floor, while Quill gets the same idea. I find out that nobody's seen the Lady here, must be a pretty illusive person. I notice Patton, Uravas, and Arumi talking to the performer, a lute player. It looks like they have different musical guests every night. They take a break at the top of the hour to go freshen up, Uravas follows them in. Odd thing to do, Arumi says that there was no telling what would happen if he was left alone. He ended up just coming out and trying to get the lute player to sign the feather of his illusory cap. I meet up with Quan and Kora in the dining room, and we exchange information. While that's going on, a bunny brings out some salads, and Quan demands to see the manager because they requested a vegetarian option, and the salad had escargot. This was a pretty smart move, if it weren't for the fact that the bunny just sort of broke and got stopped moving. Odd. Anyways, Arumi pointed out that this palace was made with high level magic, and that the owner must be a high level wizard. Maybe that explains the bunnies too? We hatch a plan to get a gig as performers, claiming a band called Euryale and the Sthenos, thinking that that was our best bet at seeing the Lady. It was around this point that the lute player tried to charm me, and that failed miserably. Arumi suspects that we might have been blacklisted right as the lute player led us into a meeting room. They told us that the Lady would meet us in Trimarket, on the other side of town. Petals pointed out later that they seemed nervous to be in a room with all 8 of us, while Arumi figures that our cover's definitely been blown. We get kicked out of the casino, and decide to try again tomorrow night. I get everyone infiltrator's elixirs from another alchemist, and we split up. Uravas, Arumi, and Patton went into the casino again, while we went to check out the lead in Trimarket, just in case. We get led on a wild goose chase, being sent to Pettyport, Markmuse Theater, and then my shop. We've been rumbled. We later find out that Uravas tried using a spell to break into one of the backrooms, immediately got caught, and him and Arumi got kicked out of the casino again. How did this happen, we're smarter than this. Patton didn't get discovered because he was on the other side of the casino, and he found out that the performer this night moved the exact way last night's lutist did, even though they looked to be a different person playing a different instrument. Arumi and I figure out that the performer must be using a spell to disguise themselves, and that when they're going into the powder room, they're refreshing the spell. We hatch a plan to sneak back in, catch the performer in the powder room, and get information from them that way. Arumi and Kora would hide in the powder room, Quan and I would keep watch in the lobby, Petals and Patton would stay in the dining room in case something went wrong, while Quill watched Uravas outside. A foolproof plan. When the performer went to go refresh the spell, they went into a nearby locked room that the receptionist was watching to refresh instead. While we try and improvise something else, Petals gets dragged into that room by one of the bunnies, her disguise got blown. I let Arumi and Kora know, and we decide to just confront them. We convince the performer to talk with us in the meeting room, and we get a confession out of them. Turns out, she was the Lady this whole time, and was keeping associates out because they figured we'd bankrupt them. Enclosed with this log is a seashell that Arumi used to record a confession from her that nothing shady was going on. She goes to release Petals after that, who claims that she "just got lost". I have my doubts on this, and get the feeling that this place is way shadier than what the Lady claimed, but at this point we've exhausted all of the time we were given, and I was exhausted from all this espionage. Patton never got caught on the third night, and informed me that he stayed the whole night and had a wonderful time. He secured a trade deal with a local farmer to get food for his goats. Truly he is the best spy amongst all of us.
