More associates are sent to Kill Valley to rescue those trapped in the mist.
Log
Since our initial investigations, we have been biding our time in anticipation for our rescue. However, with nothing to do and nowhere to go, we are… not handling it particularly well.
While spending our time in isolation has been hard on all of us, I fear for Radari’s mental fortitude the most. It seems the longer he goes without social interaction, the further he strays from sanity. Mimi, for her part, has more or less shut down too. Even my own hope has been eroded, and I worry I am becoming numb to our current circumstances. But they promised they would come back for us, and I am certain they will uphold that vow.
Radari has been spending his time in the river, mostly. Today, he was floating down the river, face down, with Mimi atop him as if he were a raft. I was watching from afar, but their endeavor was cut short at the sudden arrival of other associates.
I was familiar with some of them— Houzen, Theodore and Lictor Zeal, mainly, but the others I had not met before. Introductions were shortly in order, as the additional three introduced themselves as Vara, Isaac, and Sahona.
After greeting them, we told the group of all of our findings thus far. While I have detailed them in my previous log, I think it important to reiterate the most notable one: Charon has deeply influenced Kill Valley, as noted by a shrine dedicated to the horseman himself, a mysterious boatman, and the presence of a corrupted shard of Erastil as held by Monty. They suspected Monty to be held in a fiendish pact of sorts, which would check out. However, if this were true, anyone else that partook in that pact by joining the community would likely perish alongside Monty, should we kill him. It seemed unwise to immediately storm Monty’s estate, because if he were to truly possess such deific power, there would not be much in this world that could fell him—save for Vara and his sword.
In the meantime, the shrine seemed to be of interest to the party, so we led them over there for them to investigate. It eventually led to Zeal destroying the altar to Charon.
As we left the shrine, we seemed to have caught the attention of the boatman, which was not only odd but highly concerning, given the fact he generally paid no heed to us beforehand. Zeal made his way over to him, proclaiming him a thanadaemon. However, it was resistant to giving out any information, even under the threat of death. This was soon tested as Zeal strangled it, though the thanadaemon seemed to simply accept its fate, which is highly uncharacteristic of such a fiend. According to Zeal, it seemed weakened, in a way, though surely even a weakened fiend would fight in such a circumstance. Furthermore, Vara had become doomed upon seeing its true face, which is not something a thanadaemon should be capable of. It didn’t seem like a thanadaemon anybody had dealt with before, that was for sure.
After the business with the boatman had finished, the boat began floating up the river, escaping Zeal’s grasp as if it were evading him deliberately. However, that was two of the three leads to Charon now dealt with. What remained was Monty.
First things first, though, we decided to consider how we might achieve planar teleportation, as we needed a planar key, something with a strong enough connection to this demiplane to allow us to come and go between its world and ours. We didn’t have much of an idea of what could be used as such a key, though, so we decided to converse with Kirsten and Bonnie, the outcasts who had helped us before.
After getting back to their camp and doing the necessary introductions and explanations, the fellow outcasts seemed to think that if there was any such material for a planar key, it would surely be under Monty’s jurisdiction.
As we told them of our plan, we mentioned we would have a way for them to escape the demiplane. Both Kirsten and Bonnie wanted to say goodbye in their own way to their loved ones in the community, as their fates are highly uncertain, first.
We also asked of them to gather any other outcasts who would want to get out of here, which they agreed to once their farewells had been said. Giving them this time would also allow us time to concoct a plan for how we would be moving forward, as it would pay well to be as prepared as possible, given our next steps were now to obtain a planar key from Monty.
It would be a heist, essentially, as Zeal and Vara distracted Monty in a fight while the rest of us searched his house for the key. However, we still have many details to figure out before enacting this plan, and as such, I will leave things here for now. I pray that we all may get home safely, eventually.
