Since we got so distracted by the Nasurgeth last time, we were unable to finish off the denizens of the outer palace. As such, we got called up again to go back and finish them off. We had a slightly different group this time, with Clam, Miles, and Sheeri unable to make it. Instead we had Femi and Kirrily. We got to the wall surrounding the city, and I decided to try my hand at climbing up it without any equipment, as did Kirrily. I had a much easier time of it than she did, making it up the wall in a much shorter time. Once we were at the top, Kirrily ended up jumping down with no issues. I was not confident in my ability to take such a fall yet, so I took the slightly longer way down by climbing. It was not exactly a difficult climb, but considering the fact that the wall was 80 feet high, it took a considerable amount of time. Nevertheless, it was not more than a warmup to me. We then made our way to the gate, where we met up with the people I befriended last time, also finding out that they did not clean up the augur corpse from our last encounter either. They warn us of their boss and tell us to turn back or we will surely die. I tell them that we killed the Nasurgeth, and that didn't seem to dissuade them. They're visibly afraid of me when I tell them to let their backup come, and come it does in the form of a few wraiths and shadows. One of them tries reaching into my chest and squeezing my heart, a move I could barely feel. I would write more about it if they squeezed a little harder. They give Kirrily and I a good look at what's under their robes, which I will not be writing about to spare the council the description of such a horrible sight. We had headaches when standing in well-lit areas for a while afterwards, a curse they placed upon us. The vanguard goes down with no trouble, I am sure the evangelists liked the pain of me turning against them. We head through the same path we took last time to get to the courtyard where we had so much trouble this time. We see the horned guy who I assume is the boss of the Velstracs, a big flying guy, and some stronger looking wraiths. I found out by looking through undead bestiaries later that the boss and its flying minion were called a Sykever and Vanyver respectively. The boss turns invisible, and at this point I assume it's going to run away again. Kirrily flies up to take on the Vanyver, and the massive wound she takes alerts me to the fact that the Sykever was still there. I try healing her, but the Vanyver kept turning off our light spells, and I couldn't see that well in the darkness. She fights back though, and manages to retreat to Siltmean to recover. Eventually things look grim, so remembering that Lancaster has a lot of undead, I start throwing out spells that heal in a big area. I then notice Pomba taking damage from the spells. He says that he's allergic to "yellow magic", and I have no reason to not believe him. There is no other explanation for why this would happen. Yep, not other reason he could be taking damage from a heal spell. That whole time I was desperately hoping that he wouldn't die to my magic, I would not be able to live with myself if I accidentally killed one of my closest friends. Anyways, the Vanyver gets turned invisible after we finish off the wraiths. It is just us and enemies we cannot see at this point. We are still able to do damage to them, but we are mostly just flailing at air. The Vanyver picked up Femi and dropped her on the ground. Kirrily eventually finishes off the Sykever, and at that point I am almost out of healing spells. Femi goes down, and my vision fades soon after, leaving me alone with the voices of fallen hellknights before me, saying I should join them and that I shouldn't be alive, the usual stuff that happens when I go down. I awaken later to find out that everyone's alright as Siltmean administers elixirs of life. We then go through and clear out the rest of the undead in the area, but they were not very strong, and not worth talking about. We find a strange horn and a bunch of scrolls. Pomba keeps the horn, and we sell the scrolls to Kali, since she would pay a better price than Rocco would have. All in all, a successful job.
