Biography
Zeal is one of the Associates of the Round Table, and a proud Hellknight. Zeal, at least that's what he named himself, is fairly sure he had parents. He vaguely remembers his father, but not much else. He spent most of his youth scrounging to survive, no place to call home, looking for some sort of salvation. In that search for salvation, he developed a fascination with the gods, and yet fascination was not enough to grant him respite with most religious folk. It was not until he was 15 that he stumbled upon his calling, finding texts describing the worship of "The Godclaw" by "Hellknights", some sort of old-world religious organization.
If there was one thing this world lacked, it was order. And that was what this "Godclaw" depiction of the gods offered, a concept of pure, unyielding order. Though all else had failed him up to this point, he knew these old scripts amidst a derelict fortress were divine providence, proof his vile blood did not bar him from salvation. He would master their ways and someday teach others of the one true path, the path that would help them reign in the chaos that tormented this world's broken, battered body.
He studied and practiced as well as one boy could, but knew that one Hellknight would not be enough to bring order to this doomed world. Having scrounged some passable equipment and found moderate experience in woodland scraps along the way, he made his way to Onadbyr. This was the singular proper bastion he was familiar with, and he would soon make it his home.
After nearly a year of constant training and expeditions, Zeal finally became confident enough to traverse the undead-filled city of Lancaster and brave the fallen Hellknight citadel of the Order of the Nail. There, with the assistance of Cyrus Leyvald, Illiam Elro, Bright Eyes, Kali and Mayel, he faced a barbazu, also known as the bearded devil, in single combat and came out victorious. The presence of undead there beyond the assisting undead hellknights made it a messy affair, but his vows were spoken and the trial was completed. He is now a proper Hellknight of the Godclaw, and given the fact that he is also the only Hellknight of the Godclaw, he is now the order's Lictor by default.
Skills
Zeal's focus is on being in the frontlines, preferring either his current choice of polearm or a morningstar and shield, depending on how reliant the team is on him taking the hits. He can also heal with Lay on Hands, though he's only good for one of those in the midst of combat. He's best served as a secondary tank thanks to his ability to defend others from harm while simultaneously harming the enemy with his Retributive Strike, but with his intimidation skills and solid defenses he can hold his own in most up-close scenarios. He also has a slew of resistances making him deceptively sturdy against many foes, and can target the vulnerabilities of many targets using ghost touch, disruption, flaming, axiomatic, holy, and even smite evil.
